Default Shipping costs to Canada/US from Canada.

I have a question on costs to ship say a brush from Canada to the US and/or Canada. I shipped 40 razors to a B&B member who was in the US and it cost me $7.50. I can only imagine the cost of a brush or razor to the US. Now Canada may be cheaper, but if I don't know the postal code, there is no way of me knowing the before cost, say from Ontario to Edmonton or Ontario to Vancouver there will be a price different for sure because of distances.

Are there any Canadian B&B members that can shed some light on this.

    +100.

$6 to ship a box with a razor or brush to the US and $10-13 in CAD. go figure.

i'm a Canadian through and through, born, razed, spend all of my vacation time here, but when it comes to things like sales and trades, it's cheaper and more economical for me to make it CONUS

the Canada Post Slot of Doom is what kills us. nothing thicker then .7" can go in a padded envelope and to ship a jar of soap or cream inside canada, cost at least $10.

    SLOT OF DOOM
Within Canada, regular parcel is the least expensive method of shipping unless your item is thin enough to fit in the well-known and much-loathed "Slot of Doom" - the 2cm-wide template used by Canada Post to determine if a package can be mailed at one of the cheaper rates. If your item is less than 2cm thick (including packaging), you can send it by oversize lettermail. The savings between oversize lettermail and regular parcel can be $10 or more.To the U.S. and International, you must again contend with the Slot of Doom if you wish to take advantage of the cheapest rate, Light Packet. Note that Light Packet does not include insurance or delivery confirmation. The next cheapest rate is Small Packet, which includes insurance but not delivery confirmation. Light Packet costs around $2, Small Packet, $6-7.Unfortunately, there is no Canadian equivalent for Small Packet.

On the other side, I've shipped things from here to Canada. The last brush I shipped cost less than $3.00.

I bought 3 razors off the B/S/T last month
2 from the US 1 from Canada
All were shipped in roughly the same sized box
The Canadian shipped razors were over twice the price of the ones from the US

I agree that Canada Post is more expensive.. But you have to understand the reason..

They have to deliver to the 2nd largest country in the world (all of it.. including the far north), and we only have 35 or so million people paying for it...

Compare it to the US which is smaller.. but has 311+ million people in it...

It is an economy of scale situation... for every one of us there is 9 of them (and a smaller area..)

Sucks... but C'est la vie.. :)

You are subsidizing the more remote places.... Plus Canada Post needs to waste their fair share of money..

I've made up my mind long ago ... Canadapost = Thieves

It can be broken down any way anyone wants, but they will always be thieves to me regardless.

    hi,
i just learned this myself living in B.C.i heard from an Ontario online retailer that it costs $18 to ship to B.C. but only $8 to ship to the U.K or USA.i understand Canada is a huge land mass with a small population but domestic shipping should not be that much or at least CANADA POST should offer Canadian people some competive options.map47

Packages in the 250 g range are shipped for ~$6-7 to any address in the US. I pay $11-13 for something to be shipped to Ottawa, Montreal, Alberta, etc. Also, I pay 11.50 for 100 g razor to be shipped from Concord to Woodbridge (both in Vaughan - about 10 km apart).

just got this today, which may help out us CAD's to ship small parcels within CAD and to the US

    or maybe not: http://pages.ebay.ca/sellerinformati...kedpacket.html

Important changes coming for Canada Post Shipping Services
    Dear Joe Cool,

On February 11 2013, Canada Post will introduce two lower-cost trackable services for US and International shipments: Tracked Packet – USATM and Tracked Packet – InternationalTM. These services will be an attractive option for PayPal customers who are sending shipments under 1kg to the USA, or under 2kg to other supported countries. The ability for PayPal customers to print shipping labels for these two new services will be available shortly.

With the upcoming introduction of these two new services, Canada Post will retire their Small Packet – USA Ground service effective January 14. This means we are discontinuing the USA Surface Small Packets service for PayPal customers using the print shipping label feature. PayPal customers who attempt to access USA Surface Small Packets service on the PayPal website may experience an error message until this service is removed from the online menu later this month.

Additionally, there are changes to insurance options for a select number of shipping services offered by PayPal for customers using the shipping label tool. Effective January 14, customers will no longer receive any liability coverage on packages sent with Small Packets services, and will no longer receive complimentary insurance on Regular Parcel service.
Tracked Packet – USATM and Tracked Packet – InternationalTM will become available via PayPal shipping label printing very soon. We’ll have more details regarding timing and label printing discounts for these services shortly.

    Sincerely,

    PayPal Canada

Nice thing about Canada Post is that they often can't be bothered to collect tax/duty/brokerage on incoming parcels.
The couriers are 100% efficient for collecting.
