Default Honing a Wedge-Finishing on CrOx???

So I have been working on getting my wedge to shave ready. I have been setting the bevel on my King 1K (with 1 layer of tape) until it easily shaves arm hair. I then follow the rest of the Unicot steps on my coti (eventually adding a 2nd layer of tape). I want to finish by stropping it on my balsa with CrOx then the obvious linen/leather. My question is when I move to the balsa/CrOx, should I leave the two layers of tape on or take it off? I don't want to ruin my edge before I even attempt to shave with it...

If it's on a hard substrate then yes keep it taped.

Leave the tape. Make sure it is not worn & doesn't have embedded grit in it.
Best practice IMO is to always change tape in between grits

Wid, my apologies, I am still a relative noob. What do you mean "if it's on a hard substrate?"

Sorry, that would be a something like balsa wood. If it were a hanging strop then it wouldn't be necessary but still recommended.

You might want to change out the tape too, before hitting the pasted strop.

I know it sounds like blasphemy, but you can try the edge without paste first. If it is a good one, than you might not even need the crox, if it is bad, than paste won't help, so crox will only help if you can get a good or decent shave out of it.
