Default Video killed the radio star, Synthetic Badger imitation killed Mühle Badger Silvertip

    Good day Gentlemen!
Sad but true. I use since several years Mühle Silvertip Brushes, price between 100 and 150 €. Out of curiosity I´ve purchased an OMEGA Synthetic Badger Imitation brush for 30 €.
Mühle got KO in the 1st round. The Synthetic made loads of lather on hard soaps like Haslinger for example, it´s easy in the maintenance and it feels unbelievable pleasant on the skin. Now i got 3 OMEGA and I´ve ordered a Mühle Fibre (about 50 €).
IMO this is the end of the Badger Brushes dictatorship.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Do you have model numbers for your Omega brushes?

The dirty little secret that no one likes to acknowledge here is that synthetic bristles create thicker, creamier lather more quickly than badger. The drawback to them is water/heat retention and that the fibers don't "behave" like natural hair. At least, until Muhle's Silvertip Fibre solved that problem. They still don't retain as much water and heat, but the gap has been closed. What they do is "purge" water, which gets infused into the cream and soap very quickly, making lather mixing pretty much perfect every time.

I have a Muhle K256 synth in the 2009 fibre in my travel kit and it performs just fine on soaps. The Silvertip Fibre from 2011 is easily the equal to any Super Badger you put it up against (and most of the big boys, to be honest). As for Omega...I owned one of their synthetics (not Syntex) about 2 years ago. Although great at creating lather, it was too prickly for my tastes, and Omega tends to make their brushes lofty, which exacerbates the main failing of sythetics: that they don't "splay" like real hair.

I use the EJ Chatsworth synthetic and have no complaints. I haven't used any high end boar or badger brushes to have a point of comparison, but I'm very happy with my purchase.

Any car will take you from point A to B. Now, do you want to drive in a Yugo or a Ferrari?

The Omega synthetic the OP refers to is available via Bullgoose, Amazon, Ebay, West Coast Shaving or Shoebox Shaveshop. It's NOT the white "syntex" stuff, but the stuff with the grey "badger-ish" tips. The Muhle Silvertip Fibre synthetic is available via Muhle US, The Superior Shave, and Bullgoose.

I am curious how the Muhle Silvertip Fibre compares to their Black Fibre or if they are the same thing with different coloration. Cheers

YMMV - I had an Omega Synthetic Badger and got rid of it. This one > http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/om64luboarba.html

I didn't like how the knot collapsed into a tube when wet and then had to be completely splayed out to be of any use.

It did dry faster but that wasn't enough for me to keep it around.

I'm really considering giving the Mühle 39K252 a whirl - I just wish there was more information around these parts - as I don't want to be the guinea pig!

    Manufacturers description:
High-quality synthetic fibres, a world first:
a premium quality developed in-house analogously to natural silvertip badger.
Silvertip Fibres are tangibly soft, extremely long-lasting & somewhat less sensitive in everyday use,
as water drips of them and they dry faster than natural hair.
The completely vegan friendly fibre quickly creates a particularly creamy lather from shaving soaps and creams.
High-grade resin requires expert craftsmanship. The material is turned from round rods and polished.
Handles in this design are highly durable and possess excellent haptic properties

I have just ordered the Mühle, it´s on it´s way from UK to Germany I guess. I´ll test it and write some review.
