I started with sweeping loops and finished with the pen at my preferred writing angle. cleaned the slit and wiped it down and I was surprised to find that it seems much smoother. So my real question is...while I know they are smoothing with about 1500 grit micro mesh, do you think the emeries are too aggressive?
Yes, that's WAY too aggressive. You should be working with 12,000 grit for smoothing. The tipping will be compromised even with 6,000. Get carried away and I'll give you Greg Minuskin's number for re-tipping.

Ya, well I figured that out, fortunately by reading and not by grinding, although I have a Chinese pen the was a fine and is now a fine/medium...lol. It is nice and smooth and I flattened the iridium baby bum a bit, but didn't cut through it. It is more of 50 year old bum now. I have some better grits on the way. Strop steered me towards a Canadian provider.

Have you gotten what you need yet? If you need shellac and talc, I'm pretty sure I can help you out. Shoot me a PM with your address. I'll get something out to you.

HAHA! Two pens are back of the desk drawer and into my pocket!

My Grandmother's Sheaffer Sovereign TD and an Imperial IV TD. Both are nice but OH MAN does Grandmother's pen have a nice nib on it.
