Thread: Wine red suit, what colour shoes?

Trying to be serious here; I think that when you hit the right tone of burgundy you can have a very classy look. Don't go for brown shoes; they are or too close (definite mismatch) or too far away (another mismatch) from the color of your outfit.

Black only if all options fail; there is a pretty big chance that black shoes under a burgundy suit make you look like a porn star or worse, a would-be porn-star.

Safest choice; middle to dark grey or even better, anthracite. Grey sounds boring but when you wear a suit that atracts attention the last thing you want is a pair of shoes that do that too.

Since you have a suit of Wine, you need shoes of Champagne.

Once saw a guy at a funeral in a purple suit with matching purple fedora and purple suede shoes.

    Don't be that guy.

I tried on the pants & vest this evening. While not perfect, I am pleased eith them. The seamstriss usually does womens & childrens clothing, not mens, let alone a suit. When she made the vest, she made the front pieces then sewed on the lapels. I know that that is not the proper way but for as little as I have into this, I am not going to complain.

Cordovan is the way I would go. It's not quite brown and not quite burgundy but it should work well

Dark brown or dark red (like blood) shoes would look best with that suit IMHO. I guess you can work black shoes with it as well, but dark brown looks better.

I am fascinated by this thread.

I will never have the intestinal fortitude to pull off a wine red suit; the whole idea is so foreign to me it I just keep waiting on the payoff!

With a suit that colour you can't go wrong with purple shoes.

I would say black or oxblood. If you are going for a brown it would have to be dark mahogany colour.

Out of curiosity for those who said oxblood (I didn't know this was a standard shoe colour, but it's definitely appropriate) -- what else would you wear oxblood shoes with? (E.G. other than a wine-coloured suit)

I have sourced some better fabric. It is 100% 14 ounce wool meant for winter coats. It is $60 a yard & I am waiting on my tax return to purchase the fabric from Fishmans in Chi town.
