What is it that makes a 51 special?

I mean... It looks somewhat.. old fashion with the short nib.
Does it really outperform say a Lamy Safari?
I try to set myself second.

I'm sure as soon as Brian's toes uncurl from reading that he will be "penning" a response.

I suppose thay aren`t being made any longer..?

I am with Andreas, I don't have to have mind, but I do want something I don't have to repair. Is there a thread for what to ask or look for in a 51, as well as where to get one. My budget is in the 50.00 range.

In the past I have owned every lamy out there. May copies of each. I only have 1 left. a lamy 27. IMHO for the price there are a lot better performing pens out there. a "51" can be had for anywhere's between 25.00 to 1,250. It all depends on if it is writing, and the rarity. I have 27 right now in various stages of repair. I spent between 10.00 to 45.00 for each.

I have been so busy trying to find a sweet starter Pelikan I have not been keeping up with my subscribed threads. I did not even know how close I came on this PIF...sheesh kadooch, I missed it by the breadth of an Pelikan 140 EF Nib line. Congrats Mike H, nice ink, nice PIF.

You're eyeing Pelikans too? Can we both blame Nemo?

Who else, but the notorious Pelikan purloiner...Nemo...! Yes I believe we may have it..."Avian Flu...Pelikan Fever". The diagnosis is in...the prognosis looks bleak for our pocket books...and Brian, I think you need to get to a doctor as well, I believe you have a raging case of OCPD..."Obsesive Compulsive Parker Disorder". Although you may be to far gone for treatment.

And thank you, Mike, for the handwritten thank you letter. This is one of the best parts of this forum, correspondence with other gents and getting to use all my pens and inks.

Be there or be square. Only I can do both!
I've got a cat named Beefeater and a dog named Beefeater, and two goldfish called Beefeater and Beefeater. There's Beefeater my hamster and Beefeater my horse, and my piglet, known as Beefeater of course.
