I think BB was talking about the "G-inside-D" mark on the bottom of the guard plate. We don't know for sure what it signifies, but the current "best guess" is that it was required of silver plated items that were being imported into one or more countries in continental Europe -- most likely France, but possibly other countries as well -- like a hallmark requirement, essentially.

Another Grand Shave King went by in an Aristocrat case recently.

The American Rocket Milord was so hard not to re-bid on. I wanted it sooooooo bad. Only the second one I've ever seen.

I thought the G inside D was a sign it had been damaged and repaired. In the early days Gillette would carry out ONE repair on a damaged razor and marked it with the GD

The repair theory for "G inside D" is not universally accepted: the hallmark idea seems at least as plausible. Some prior discussion might help:

I'll go one further and say that in my opinion the repair mark theory is not only merely dead, it's really most sincerely dead. The final nail in its coffin was the discovery of the still sealed Olympic Pioneer set containing a G-inside-D marked razor -- with a cracked handle, too, I might add. So if it was repaired and repackaged as new they did a pretty lousy job.

I have one NOS boxed. Pretty much a Merkur HD that you can't open without a key.

    I didn't get mine under $50 either..

It's a '58 TV Superspeed in a Fat Boy adjustable case.

Now you just need to find the matching razor and case and you've got two nice cased razors!

Is that why someone paid that price? It seems a bit high for just a SS.
Please don't tempt me to buy anymore.
