  1. Default Straight location in The Necessary Room

    I have very limited space in my bathroom - just the top of the toilet tank. Presently I have three of my straights standing up inside a beer mug with a paper towel in the bottom for padding. I pick out the one to use and when done, dry it thoroughly and replace. In time I move it elsewhere and rotate in a different one - I have six or so, maybe eight or could be forty-two, dunno. Kidding, I am at six or so.

    At any rate, there has to be a better way to have a selection at my fingertips safely stored. What do you guys do or where do you put them following use? There HAS to be a thread on this somewhere.

    Most of use with several razors in the rotation don't keep them in the bathroom. Here are some ideas.

    Shane's work over at Cutting Edge.
    He made a custom set for me with the bottom trimmed back to allow for wall-mounting.
    I did use the Dremel to deepen the divots that the tangs rest in since I didn't feel that they were secure enough.
    Non-custom, these are designed for resting on a countertop.

    I don't keep mind in the bathroom because of all the moisture. I have a drawer in my bedroom.

    ~~~As others have said...it's a good idea *not* to store your straight razors in the bathroom you also shower or bathe in, due to the presence of humidity, but nothing is black and white so you can store them wherever you want, including your bath if that is where you want to leave them. That said, I do not keep mine in either of the bathrooms I shave in, including my half bath which has no source of water other than the commode or the sink, but that's still two potential sources of moisture. Steel and moisture do not get along well
    I keep all of my razors in razor rolls, made of felt or terry cloth. I have four, three are made of felt and one is terry cloth. I purchased them from Larry (Whipped Dog). He has them listed on his site. What I like about them and IIRC, I have been using them since early last summer?...they were fairly inexpensive, keep the razors seperated from one another in their own individual pouches, and they roll up and take up little space. FWIW, one is a four roll, two hold 9 razors, and the terry cloth is a monster and holds 22? razors
    Why does it have to be at your fingertips?
    I fortunately live in a dry climate and can keep mine in the bathroom with no issues (some have not been used/oiled in over a year and show no signs of water damage). That said, I have a fancy arrangement of 5 coffee mugs on my bathroom counter holding my straights.
    I store my razors on one of my desks in my home office, I only keep my brushes and software in the bathroom. the humidity is just too high in the master bathroom, especially during the summer months here in the tropics. I still haven't found a good setup for my little cubby shave den.
    Cool Razor Rolls
    Okay, pics of my 4 razor rolls...both blue felt rolls are 9 slots, the small brown felt is a four slot, the large brown terry cloth roll can hold 22 razors...11 slots in the front, 11 slots in back, behind the front razors
    I bought all four rolls from Larry (Whipped Dog)...here they are open-
    It doesn't make sense for me to leave these anywhere in the bathroom so I keep the rolls in a drier part of my home...even then, the razors not put into current rotation need to be oiled for storage, or else I'll find (DAMHIK) micro chipping on some of the edges. As mentioned earlier in the thread, I purchased all four rolls from Larry at Whipped Dog http://www.whippeddog.com/
    ~~~the fish embroidery was in place when I recieved it. As others have said here (B&B forums) countless times, Larry is great to do business with. I also had Larry send me a few of the plastic toothbrush coffins...IIRC he said you can put a pair of straights in one...I've yet to use one but thought it might come in handy when day for an overnighter or two and want to travel light
