Both are great Lavender scents that, in my opinion, smell fantastic. Hence, the obvious answer is to get both. If you can't, just flip a coin!

Since you have tried both, what would you say the difference is? I will likely end up with both, eventually. There seems to be 2 camps of lavender, one that is more floral and one that is more herbal or pure. I would say for instance TOB Lavender shave cream is more Herbal, as is say Agua de Lavender. (though it is not a soap. Many others are more scent of lavender with other things, or more floral and rose toned. I like the herbal component to Lavender and not so much the sweeter floral versions. I used to have a couple hundred lavender plants and like the natural dried lavender scent.

To my nose the King Louis is a stronger Lavender scent, while the Chianti Lavender is sweeter. Scent aside, these two soaps are made by two different manufacturers and are very different in formulation, too. The King Louis is a vegetable soap, strongly powered with a ton of natural oils and produces an extremely slick lather . The Chianti Lavender has the trusted, Old School Cella formula fragranced in a different way with tallow as key ingredient and gives a superb lather that wins under every aspect. Both soaps are True Masterpieces.

A 3rd lavender?? Is this new product connected with the S.Maria one that you are waiting for?

I have the Chianti Lavender and the King Louis Lavender and to my nose the Chianti wins hands down. In fact my King Louis is nearly unscented.

I've only got one shave on the King Louis and so far it's pretty nice stuff, but I don't think it's as nice as the artisan line. Only more shaves will tell the whole story.

Different shavers have different experiences and different ideas. I was only giving my opinion on these wonderful soaps that I already did test when they were prototypes, before being introduced on the market.

really? to me, the KL is not a strong scent at all. I find it very mild actually. i'm not saying i want it stronger, but i wouldn't complain if it was.

    it's a Top Notch Performer.

I apologise, I wanted to write "milder", but for some unknown reason I wrote "stronger".

Had to scoot by the local pharmacy (take that, yokels!) last evening and pick up the King Louie lavender. Wow. I found the scent to be almost as strong as the chianti artisan (an admittedly light scent) but less sweet and much nicer and purer. More surprising was the performance. I expected a step back from the tallow based artisan, but this was one of the best performing non-tallow products I ever tried. The lather was even thicker than La Toja, and it provided that elusive MWF-like post shave feel, without the headaches.

When I was a kid, my mother would send me to the butcher and say "Tell him not to put his thumb on the scale!" I haven't verified this yet, but the KL tub seems to weigh twice as much as the artisan, although both are labeled as 150g. Even if I'm wrong, that tub is absolutely crammed with product.

    Another winner!
