Well I know this should be 'shave of the day' but I just had to report in on my first shave with a GD.
I think GD should stand for Gosh Darn it,or something close to that if you catch my drift. My word what a shave. It was said these had to be shavers but I never expected a shave like I got tonight! Man -O-Man this thing is incredible. Two day growth ( yeah I missed a day go figure) and this thing mowed 'em down like few other blades I have could do. And I have a few.
Just recently I resto'd a TI and gave it a go. I have to say, and many might get upset with me, but the GD did a better job. One pass and there was little if any thing left to work on. I did lather up a second time and I was clean as a whistle. I used Tabac as my regular go to test soap and my favorite fan brush.
But I am still so impressed with this blade I can't wait to try more. With the grain, cross the grain, against the grain it didn't seem to care or make a difference.
Simply amazing. And the razor is just so pretty! At least to my eyes it is. Win , lose, draw I'm calling it a winner in my book. I'm blown away.

Which model was it? I'm still curious whether there are any differences in the steel between the more "expensive" models and the cheaper ones.

I was going to use mine again tonight, but I just got a Dubl Duck Goldedge in the mail... so guess what, that ain't happening.

Mark, my "best" razor is a Thiers Issard J85 that I bought new about 10 years ago. The Gold dollar I pimped a few months ago, and the #300 that Kentos graciously passed around both are in the same league as the Ti. Other than ugly, ain't a thing wrong with a Gold Dollar...

So when do we get to see pics of your pimped gold dollar? I need to know if I need to break out my bedazzler...

Legion, It's a 66. I never got any of the others so I can't comment on which seems to be better. All I know is this this is SO SWEET! I too recently picked up a DD Gold Edge as well. Mines sort of minty fresh. Honed it up anyway and got a very nice shave contrary to some of the posts I've read lately.

Sorry Trick,, having a hard time hearing you over my grinders,, you want what? You're going to have to speak louder. Did you say you want to see my bedazzler? You want to see pics of a Gold Dollar? You came to kick some bubblegum and chew some what? Nope,, sorry ,,, can't hear you too well.

Whirrrrr,,, Whirrrrr,,, grinnnnnnd...see the sparks fly! Ohh now that's bedazzling! Like the 4th of July 'round here. Sparklers everywhere. Wheeeeee!!!! Ain't she Puuuurty?
It's pretty much straight forward stuff. Nothing off the wall. No need to worry 'bout me.

A 66? OK, well that's the entry level model, so that is more evidence that the steel is the same. OK.

I don't think anybody said Dubl Ducks are bad... Just too expensive. I got a pretty good price on mine, so I thought why not.

Yeah, I got a very good deal on mine as well. I actually think I sort of stole it. But the vendor did say they researched the values of them. Ahhh, don't think so unless it was 20 yrs ago. And actually some said they weren't particularly good shavers, besides the price. I can now say I don't believe them at least in my experience. I'd use it more often if it weren't so nice. I just know I'll mess it up somehow and then I'd be sick. Some I do keep for looking good and original.
No paco, I wasn't referring to you. And you allude to another site that doesn't seem to like to have fun and try new things. Even if it was one of the best darn shaves I've had? And you get banned for getting a good shave? Pshaw.....Out of the box I'm certain it would have been terrible, but playing is half the fun. Some guys wear their panties too tight.

Trick,, threaten you? Why in Heavens name would I do that? Just having fun and being silly. Please don't ever take me as being serious. My razors are serious, I'm not. Ha,, now that's funny.

I hardly believe it's a feeble attempt! I think I need to get out my shovel. It's getting deep! Ha! Balsa? Have you been peeking in my shop as well? Except I was going to use Cordovan shoe polish for that deep waxed shine. Or possibly spring for a new can of Rustoleum. And it's amazing the spine work you can do with an 8" bench grinder. I especially like the nice blue color the steel has taken on in spots.

No, I should do that. Maybe tomorrow. I haven't had a "score" in a little while.

Edit; In before the sun went down. Done.

I can BE a Butthead,, but I've never seen a single episode of them. I figured I missed something along the way , hence my confusion. Sorry.
