Default Schick krona..Is there a modern equal?

    HI Guys
I recently acquired a Schick krona (Thanks HDStreetGlide)

I find it to be a superb razor.
The shaves I get from it are smooth with zero irritation

Does anyone know if there is a modern DE that shaves like the Krona?

I own a feather As and it is great as well, the Schick is just different

    All input is appreciated

    Phil

Not sure what you mean by "modern."

But I would suggest a vintage Gillette Tech with the thick handle, and loaded with a Feather blade would approximate the Schick Krona of the 1070s.

What's wrong with staying with the Schick Krona? You have an outstanding mild razor, probably the best. Why hunt further?

By modern I mean in current production..should have been clearer

To answer your question I'm thinking about having a CCB custom handle done and am looking for a nice mild head.
A tech might do nicely now that you say it

Well the Weishi is supposed to be VERY mild. Might want to give that a try. Its more a Superspeed clone, but more mild.

Could try the Feather Popular, its a TTO razor.

Look for a Schick Platinum. It's the development of the Krona.

I will dig for a picture of mine though a forum search might also turn one up faster.

The Gillette G1000 TTO shave very similar to the Krona. I've got 2 Kronas and and one of the G1000's. I'll use them back to back and report. I prefer the Krona. It's balanced quite well and the brushed steel head looks really handsome. It's one the most underrated razors, for sure.
The G1000 is from 1998 or so. This is modern enough for this kind of razor. There's a Chinese version, Gillette 7O'Clock Super Platinum http://www.ebay.com/itm/GILLETTE-7-O...item19c43e2f5a

Although a DE noob, I must admit, I love my Krona, it shaves very different than my Gillettes. Here is mine next to my Super Speed

I have been looking at the Edwin Jagger DE86BL, and the Merkur 20C, but my brother (Bluesbishop) keeps telling me that the Edwin Jagger DE89 is the way to go.

The Gillette Knack will get you close, but I do not think it is as smooth as the Krona. Bob makes TTO handles, you could ask him if he can do one with the Krona. As a Krona lover I would like to here that answer myself. If he can I may just have to send him one.

If that's possible you may have to source another one for me

I was afraid of that. The Knacks are a dime a dozen, keep your eye on Ebay and the BST.

I just tried out my "new" fine Schick Krona (thanks ltjaw!). What a great razor! I believe its even smoother than the 40īs Superspeed that i recently held as the gold standard. I also think that its a little bit less effective (agressive) but then it could be that i have to adjust myself. And anyway, since it so smooth you can get a pass more with the Krona without any irration.

Btw: I belive that you, (pcumby) should continue to use the Krona. You got one of the best probably already. :-)
