    Default Newbie Update

Well I started out with the best of intentions. I had bought a cheap plastic handled DE and some generic personna blades. The plan was to work on technique for a while before changing anything. That lasted about 2 weeks when in my local pharmacy I spied a cheap brush (Dimples brand) and some Erasmic cream. What resulted was the worst shave of my life. Weepers, razor burn and really bad irritation from the brush or cream.
So I stopped and admit moved back to the fusion for the next couple of days and was thinking what's the point of this DE stuff when i can get a much closer shave more quickly from the fusion. But I persevered and returned to the cheap de using canned foam and concentrating on blade angle and no pressure. Better but the fusion was still looking like the winner of the battle.
So I decided to bite the bullet and spend some money on a decent set up some porasso cream, an omega 48 boar brush, Blade sampler pack and My new pride and joy a Muhle R89. Using a derby blade I proceeded to have an amazing shave, I was doing 4 passes with the old de but with the new set up I only did 2 and had the best results ever with a DE.
Now I cant get the stuble to grow back quick enough Im itching to have another go and see if I can finally beat the fusion for closeness. Maybe and extra couple of passes with a derby or will I take the chance on the feathers ???

    Welcome to B&B.

It is surprising how many bad products are still around. Good that you buckled down and got a nice set up. It will be much more enjoyable for you now.

Experimentation is part of the fun, but in general, if you don't get any tugging with your blade, it is probably sharp enough. So, if you have tugging with the Derby, try a sharper one from your collection, since you already have a blade pack. If you don't, add another pass. Ultimately, you probably should try both options and see which works for you. Either way, congratulations on starting to get better shaves!
