My father was adamant about NOT wearing any kind of fragrance. If someone came to visit that was heavily aroma-ized, he would go sit on the porch until they left the house. His deodorant of choice was roll-on Ban, and his shaving gear was whatever he could get the cheapest. Usually Barbasol or Gillette Foamy, with Bic disposable razors. The only soap I remember seeing in his bathroom was either Ivory or Dove. He kept his hair very short, and didn't bother with shampoo or conditioner, just washed it with soap and water when he took a shower. He didn't want my mother wearing any perfume, but she did. He didn't want her to color her hair either, but she did that, too.
When I was around 10 years old, I bought him a bottle of Old Spice Lime ASL in a frosted glass bottle for Father's Day. When he passed away 25 years later, it was still sitting in his medicine cabinet, unopened.
I Came. I Shaved. I Conquered.
