It is called "What the market will bear.".

The price of a good or service is not the asking price but the selling price.

They are just hoping to hook a sucker. Or, separate a fool from his money, as noted above.

The one I liked best recently was the lightly used Merkur Futur that someone had gone to the trouble of engraving Hoffritz into the cap, and were trying to pass it off as a vintage Hoffritz razor. The best part of it was it was going for (when I saw it) like $15. I almost bid on it just cause hey, it's still a Futur, and $15-20 is a damn good price for one. But chose not to.. trying to fight the RAD.

There is a ton of stuff on eBay that I don't get, and I haven't been on it in YEARS. It is a fiercely unethical business model, and God help you if you need customer service from them, good luck! I just generally stay off it.

eBay is like any other marketplace. Go to an antique mall. You will see one vendor selling a 1955 Super Speed for $40 and literally 20 feet away you will see another vendor selling a 1955 Super Speed for $5. The moral of the story is that in any market the burden is on the consumer to be educated and make an informed decision.

I once saw an L6 with a 5-pack of Derby's on a BIN for around $60. It took all my restraint not to ask the seller if he knew that you could get the same razor on Amazon for $12.
