Default The one you desperately want to work, but...

    Friends,

There's one out there for everyone who has more than one razor. It's the one that you really really want to work for your face. You've heard so much about it, everyone raves about it, but dangit - it just won't give you a good shave! Maybe it's that 1912, or the Aristocrat... either way, it's out there.

Mine is the slant-bar. I have a vintage Coles slant that just won't give me a consistently good shave, even after months of tying.

What I'd like to know is, what's yours? What's the razor that just won't work but that you keep trying?

I don't. After a week OFF it goes! To somewhere...I tried the Fatboy didn't care for it. But it's at a happy home, I presume.

I had a Cooncat razor that I was absolutely in love with but alas, it was not reciprocated. The more I loved her, she more she hurt me and I had to let her go.

Mine is the Merkur 1904, in both the safety bar and the open comb.

For the razor I wanted to work but it didn't, that would be the slant for me.

You guys are better than me, letting it go -- I had a Red-Tip early in my DE career and sold it because it wasn't shaving right. I saw one about two months later and just had to buy it because I missed it and didn't know if it would shave me right! Ha!

I have tried two Ever-Ready 1924. I will not be trying another one. By contrast, I have had no problem with GEM 1912, GEM Damaskeene, Gem Jr. 1901,and Ever-Ready 1914.

That's fascinating, I didn't realize there was such a variation between SE razors that would make one not work like that. I only have a 1912 and it's alright - not exactly my favorite, but it works when I'm in the mood for it. Sorry the '24 isn't your thing!

Mine was a Slim. I had read so much about how much you need an adjustable, so I got one. Tried tried everything... tons of different blades at all different settings and just couldn't make it work. I finally just gave up on it and passed it on to another, hopefully more successful member.
