Mine was Weleda, actually a shaving cream; that was disgusting! The refreshing breeze of a crowded middle school locker room.
I did not care much for Tabac and even less for Sir Irisch Moos, though they produce perfect lather both.
Arko is surely a bit different on the olfactory level, themed "grandma doing laundry in the 1940's". But not bad to me, just funny. And its lather is superb -- a legend actually. Instant Santa Clause.
What lead me here was a search for "i coloniali". I received it yesterday and -- meeh. Bad performance, and does not smell too great. A good 30$ blown.

Probably get burned for this, but it was Cella for me. Never even test lathered it, just traded it away. Akro was pretty nasty for me too.
Cheers, Ryan
arko and tabac
The worst for me is also Arko.
I love the smell of Tabac. It was my first shaving soap, and I fell in love with it from the first time I used it. I will probably always have a place for it in my den.

I'd have to say AOS Sandalwood. I know it has a lot of fans but I didn't like it at all.
arko
La Toja
I had my first shave with La Toja this morning and I admit, the scent is fading with use. Its performance is top notch.
When I got it I almost wrote to the vendor. I will keep it and use it.
Did I tell you I got three sticks?![]()
arko, handmade soap company, macca root are 3 that stick out in my mind.
Bob Dylan Salutes the 2013 Sabbatical Members
I must disagree - I like the scent and performance of the I Coloniali.
As the old saying goes, one man's meat is another's poison
Perfectly correct. Also relating to
which made me twitch at first -- not the AOS Sandalwood!
That one I absolutely love -- that's just how different perception can be.
Which makes this forum interesting: imagine we all would be completely alike! That would actually be quite boring.

Great thread...really seems like Tabac, Williams and Arko are leading the pack.
I'm fairly blessed...I have a good size collection (though most are RazoRock), and I really don't have any bona fide duds (IMO). I'm looking at my inventory spreadsheet...and I'd say my least favorite in the collection is VDH. Not bad, just not great (flat compared to the rest).
I'll have to take another whiff when I get home, but I don't think I was too excited about Institut Karite when I got it in the mail (haven't shave with it yet).

"I'm afraid the lemur got into the pudding cups."
VDH Deluxe, Select and Glycerin don't really smell of anything in particular other than a generic soap smell.
QCS Vetiver...well, I can't single out QCS as it's the only Vetiver cream/soap I have tried and their other creams have been stellar, apparently I'm just not a fan of Vetiver. It had notes that were very appealing to me, but it had an overpowering cigarette smoke stink and made me physically nauseous. The odd thing is I was a smoker for 19 years and quit about 1.5 years ago, now it makes me sick...go figure.
