The best option would be delaying the game...Now we will pay 60 dollars for a game that is stripped down? That ant be good and I imagine this is at the prodding of Activision. IMHO they make good games sometimes, but a lot of time some of those games end up rushed out and having msive issues because of it.

    Two things that point to a release date;
The game is in beta. Games don't get to beta without being fairly close to done.
They cancelled Blizzcon, some people say so that they could focus on getting Diablo 3 out. Don't know if that means that they usually would start planning Blizzcon now or it means that they need the people who would be at Blizzcon to finish it by the holiday. Either interpretation works.

Personally was hoping for an earlier in the year launch but honestly I wouldn't hold my breath. I think one of Blizzard's major factors in success in the past was the fact that they didn't rush games to launch like every other developer seems to do. Diablo 3 getting rushed like this could end up hurting them in the long run. Careful what you all wish for :) .

My brother rented the beta with "forum gold" on d2jsp (I think). He let me hop on for a bit. He ended up having it for three or more days. He played quite a bit.

I'm currently enjoying a $6 RPG I bought the other day called "Risen" which is some sort of a spinoff from the Gothic series (which I never played). It feels quite a bit like the first Fable game that I absolutely loved. Pretty enjoyable.

As far as laptop specs I'd have to look. ATI HD4560 comes to mind as my graphics card. It's about a year old $380 laptop. 3 gigs of RAM.

I wouldn't bank on the laptop being able to run it well, but you may be right.
My laptop runs SC2 like a champ. D3... a bit shakey.

The latest news here, perhaps most importantly indicating that your PC need not be beastly to run it (I know ultra-high specs were never going to be a prerequisite for this game, but I'm now very keen to see what the final min/rec specs will be).

Mike Morhaime during the Activision-Blizzard Conference call at approximatively 38:45:

I mentioned earlier that we began beta testing for diablo3 last year. After receiving feedback from the community and our internal team, we made changes to the game that we believe will greatly improve the game experience and insure that the final release will live up to our high expectations. We ve also been testing the auction house functionality, this testing will help insure a smooth roll out of this feature with the retail launch so that player can safely and securely trade items with eachother. Given the popularity of the Action RPG genre and keen interest in Diablo 3 we expect this launch to be a big opportunity for Blizzard. We can also confirm that we targeting a Q2 Launch for Diablo 3, we expect to announce more detail about the release schedual on the coming week.

That's good news. With a new PSU and video card installed this past week, and a new hard drive waiting to go in, I feel a lot better about its release.

I was going to make a crack about "at least you are waiting for Duke Nukem Forever", but wiki says it has been released.

Well I heard they made it so everyone gets the skill runes instead of seven different "levels" dropping throughout the game. That's a fail. I fear they've gone the road of "overbalancing" which just plays to the least common denominator. I think this kind of knocks down all the other characters and players to the level of the the worst character and dumbest fan.

They're even pre-assigning skills to shortcut keys because it was too complicated?
    Are you kidding me?

I have a feeling Jay Wilson might be looking for a new job sometime shortly following release. Get someone who has a clue to get in there and fix it with an expansion pack.
Before I think I mentioned that they were just "tweaking" but it's not the case anymore. It seems like they are making some really big changes that should have been hashed out MONTHS ago.

To quote a text conversation I had with my brother yesterday (he's been REALLY following D3 since it was announced):
My brother said: "Everything has been changed. No permanent decisions. But that's what they want. Everyone level 60 and selling stuff."
Me: "True... WoW with a different storyline and less transparent way of collecting subscription fees through transactions."

Yeah, not long ago I found my original Diablo disk and took it for a spin. Just haven't been much in the mood for games lately.

I remember reading when that announcement was made something that suggested that this pre-assigning process can be switched off....that's something, I guess.

TBH I'm right there with you. I'm a Mac guy and haven't had a gaming PC in several years. I know there are tons of great games out there but I am more than happy with the consoles and the few mac games that are available. Diablo 3 is one that I AM excited about though.

Yup, also just woke up and rolled over to see that. Most excited, but would have preferred the April 17 date that was being thrown about.

Let the countdown begin, I'm putting in for a couple of days worth of leave!

Even if it's a disappointment (I strongly doubt it will be), it will keep us busy until Torchlight 2 comes out, or the redone Baldurs Gate 1 & 2, or the new Guild Wars.

A few action/rpgs in the works atm!

Aye, I saw the pre-order link on the WoW launcher this morning when I loaded it up to do a quick heroic. I look forward to it, although I feel $60 is a bit steep even for a new release, especially for a digital version.
