Used to....NO LONGER. To many 16 year old girls texting while operating a 1 1/2 ton piece of machinery.
I've got a few bikes...most inherited from my father as he was an avid collector.
Shown in pic. 2003 Custom Fatboy w/ Magna Supercharger and AirRide Suspension. She's a head turner! She's mine.
Pops had GREAT Taste.
1924 Indian Chief
1943 Harley Davidson WLD
1948 Indian Scout
1963 Harley Davidson "Police Edition" Servicar
1997 Harley Davidson Heritage Springer Classic (Daily Rider)
Many fond memories of Dad & I at Sturgis, Daytona, and riding through the Western US...he was retired military and enjoyed every time he got on his bike. Sometimes I just go for a spin to clear the head and think of him. I often wonder what kinda bike he's riding upstairs..
He was lost too soon. Enjoy everyday you have on this planet earth and the people you love....especially your Dad's (and Mom's). You only get one.
Sorry, got deep.

Sorry for the double post......
Right now I'm on a 98 Kawasaki Vulcan 500, but am currently looking at an 08 HD Night Train or an 06 HD Heritage Softail. The new Victory Hardball has caught my eye, but I don't have that kinda dough. http://www.polarisindustries.com/en-...2012_hard_ball
First pic is from Sunday, we went to Palisades Park in Illinois and rode through some nice winding roads around there.

You all forgot your helmets.
This is my 09 sportster. the 883 with no guts that guy who rides the old bikes that are always broken mentioned.
Haha, nah I didn't forget mine, it just sucks when you hit above 45 cause it's a half helmet plus I live in a state with no helmet law. Been thinking about buying a modular or a full face, but I have a feeling I would only use it when I'm in a state requiring it...it's okay I admit it, but that topic probably shouldn't go any further than it has.
Hey, it's got more guts than my little 500...coincidentally I was on my way to bike night yesterday riding my 14 yr old Japanese cruiser and low and behold I saw a newer Harley broke down on the side of the road (09 sportster custom 1200). After watching him and his Harley buddies dink around with it for about 20 minutes I pulled his seat off and tightened his positive battery cable, then started his bike for him. Told him I charge $50 an hour, but I'd settle for a beer and rode with them the rest of the way to bike night![]()

Ha!
Interesting, the only problem I've had with my 09 in 27,000 miles was a loose battery terminal. Not the cable, but the battery itself had a faulty post.
I guess that's a common problem on sportsters; they rattle so much they shake the battery cable nuts loose every so often. Who knows...maybe sportsters just don't like batteries or something lol.

Since they rubber mounted the sportster engine in...'06, i think? There really hasn't been much shaking going on.
My broken battery was likely the result of a crash though.
I suspect moreso that harley sources a cheep and crappy battery. Same way their OEM wheel bearings are garbage now. Forgot to mention that I had to have mine replaced at just under 25K miles. No excuse for that.
The one I fixed last night shook like crazy compared to mine, then again I am comparing a 1200 cc v-twin to my little 500cc. It's not a bad bike, but I don't like the center of gravity on them, they feel top-heavy to me. I'd like a dyna low, a bagger, night train or a heritage softail of some sort. My low center of gravity and light weight has earned me some respect among the HD guys when it comes to cornering.
Had to lay it down huh? Been there, better to be thankful you can still ride I guess; parts can be replaced. I've heard some rumors of them cutting corners lately with something like 13 different parts that are outsourced and no longer American made. Still, they're easy to work on and there's gotta be a reason they've been around so long. Shoot, I wish I could afford one. I just like to give the Harley guys a hard time since they like to razz me about my quiet, zippy jap cruiser.

2003 Fat Boy
Have two. Have had motorcycles since 1965. Don't ride anymore...too old.
My current motorcycles are:
'78 Yamaha SR 500...bought new in April, 1978. Big single, 4 stroke roadster.
'67 Matchless G15CS Scrambler. Has a 750cc Norton twin engine, with twin Amal carbs, sports cam all squeezed into a lightweight Matchless frame. Lyta Aluminum racing style gas tank. Aluminum skid plate under crankcase. Elongated (1.5 inches longer) Norton Roadholder front forks, modified for scrambling. Low gearing, final drive around 4.90.
Came from the factory that way.
Made in England. They were originally developed for American desert racing and known as Desert Sleds. Good drag racers in stock classes. Also in 1965 I believe (memory) a Norton N 15CS (same bike, different badge) was the Top Stock IHRA champion.
well, didn't HAVE to, but wet pavement and gravity made the decision for me...Had to lay it down huh?
And not to lecture anyone, because you should do what you think is best for you, but the only reason I'm typing this today and have a jaw to shave is due to my full face helmet.
I'm not a typical "harley guy" though. I'm more of a motorcyclist than a biker. I love everything on two wheels. If I had the dough, I would have one of everything, as I fall in love with everything I ride. Seriously, even scooters. I just love being on two wheels.
pffftt.... 13? Are you kidding? MOST Of the bike is made somewhere else, it seems. It's assembled in the US, but there are TONS of parts on a modern HD that are not made in the US.I've heard some rumors of them cutting corners lately with something like 13 different parts that are outsourced and no longer American made.
If you want a bike that is actually MADE in the US, not just ASSEMBLED in the US, you need a Victory.
Sprite, those are some nice wheels brother!
Cheers, Jeff
