Default I only have one brush and have never tried another!

So I just entered a really nice PIF lottery from Spivey for a brush. It got me thinking....out of all the money I have spent on numerous razors, blades, creams, soaps, aftershaves, etc. over the years......I have only ever tried one brush! It is a "Best Badger" Crabtree and Evelyn brush. My dad got it for me probably about 3-4 years ago and I have just stuck with it and never thought twice. How odd is that? (Semi-rhetorical question.....probably pretty odd around here....haha).

On an off note....is my brush considered more "floppy" or "scrubby".......or is it about in the middle? (I would not know)

PS (I take it back....I have tried the green handled drug store boar brush before I got my current badger brush.....so that is two.....I do not like that boar brush at all though)

If you like the brush you have been using don't even start to look for another one.

It will be an endless chase of your tail.

    Believe me... I know....

Haha....that is what I was thinking....and brushes 'aint cheap either. If I can get one in a PIF, I would love to try another one.....but you are probably right that I should not start buying a whole bunch.

Have you tried the one I have, turtle? Is it considered a floppy or scrubby one?

To my understanding, the C&E Best Badger Brush is the same as an Edwin Jagger Best Badger Brush, just rebranded. Not sure if EJ has changed how they make it in the 4 years since you received yours but I do have an EJ BBB I picked up a few months ago. To me, it's a bit floppy compared to other denser, shorter loft brushes. Also, is a bit scrubby (though a good scrubby).

I have 4 brushes - I picked up a Rooney 3/1 Super that to me has killed any shaving brush acquisition disorder I may have gotten. It's much softer then the EJ BBB and is much more dense. First time I used it I said to myself "this is it". So I can't see buying any other brush. You may be the same way with your C&E BBB. If you really like it, you're not required to look any farther. You're right - it can get expensive chasing your tail as turtle said.

PS - my comments on EJ BBB is really compared to my Rooney. Rooney's are pretty well known for their density and such. Though to me the EJ BBB is a bit floppy and has some scritch, it may be middle of the road to everyone else.

Crud - forgot to mention a few things. Some preferences aren't just with the hair type and floppiness but also on the brush shape (fan vs. bulb), handle, etc. Are you typically a face latherer or bowl latherer or both? Cream or soap user or both? Usually if you really want a new brush, the guys on here can give some good pointers based on the answers to those questions.

I only use soap, and I lather straight on the puck and then transfer it to my face (no scuttle or bowl or anything like that)

Don't go chasing the ultimate brush, stick with what works for you. After going most of 2010 with only one brush, I bought 12 last year.

Haha....well....the good thing about my brush is that I do not know if it works for me or not because I have nothing to compare it to. I guess I am happy with it because I have used it for almost 4 years. I probably would have bought something else by now if I was not happy with it. I am afraid that if I buy 1 more, it will turn into 12 by years end (like you). I have always been interested in the "Simpson" brushes for instance, but the ones I like are so damn expensive!

Since you only face lather have you thought about either a Semogue 620, 830 or 1305? These are not all that expensive $20 +/- and are considered by many to be face lather machines. I have a 1305 and I have been very happy with it. Everyone needs a good boar in their shave den so if you are getting "the itch" I would suggest you use a boar to scratch it.

I love my one and only boar brush and use it to face lather MWF. I think I'll stay away from purchasing brushes for the time being but appreciate the Semogue recommendations.

    (goes surfing for Semogues....)

1305 is a solid performer...its one of those brushes inexpensive enough to be in everybodys den IMO. Mine is broken in 10+ months now and it's a wonderful brush

Not odd at all really. I think I've only gone through 4 so far and don't really have any interest in sampling other brushes at the moment.

Boars tend to be relatively inexpensive. I'd suggest checking them out. I didn't keep any but they're certainly worth trying to determine your preference.
