    Default question about face lathering

    Hi,

Just have a quick question about face lathering which i haven't seen on videos etc.

Do you lather fully on 1 section of your face and then spread it around, or do you put a thin layer of soap all over face and then lather up your whole face bit by bit.

    Hope that makes sense

I am a 100% face latherer, so maybe I can help some. I usually start out with a rather dry brush, and load my boar brush for a minute, YES one whole minute, GWYM.....;) adding water to the puck as I lather, I also usually hold the puck in my hand, I don't use mugs or bowls etc. I then just begin swirling on my neck usually, then swirl around my face, then back down my neck, and back up my face again, until I look like santa Claus. Yes, I use a lot of product, and no u doNt have to look like Santa to have a good shave, I just enjoy that. So in other words, just experiment and find out what will work for YOU. Good luck and keep us updated on your progression! :)

    However the mood strikes you.

I use a shave stick, so I rub the soap all over then go over the whole thing with the brush until the lather gets right.

    Quick answer.

If using a stick rub it into your stubble all over and then with a wettish brush start lathering that soap. Boars work quite well for this.

Otherwise if loading from puck/tub/etc rub your loaded, wet brush all over face and that lather will start to build.

So, yeah, it's the thin layer and lather - well that works for me. Scrub and brush that soap well though to get it really sorted into a nice, slick, protective lather.

    Enjoy.

Thin layer over the whole face, then lather. Depending on how good your soap is at lathering, you can end up with a pretty thick lather layer that uses up more soap than necessary on the first pass, so I usually sort of "scrape" some off using the brush. It's kind of hard to describe how I do that, but imagine painting, but against the bristles of the brush. This takes off some of the "extra" lather and stores in your brush for subsequent passes. At times I've experimented with putting on a very thin first layer, then applying more for later passes (I usually do 3-4 passes depending on the razor). That works too.

I put a thin layer of soap all over my face and build the lather from there. I go over the same spots a few times in a circular motion.

I would think that if you want to build the lather on 1 section of your face, you can. The potential issues that I can see (doesn't mean that you will get them) is not enough product or too much lather in the brush and it will start flying.

Face lathering isn't bullet proof, you can still get a bad batch of lather if not done properly regardless of the method. IMO, using your whole face as "lather-building-area" has higher chances of success.

I only face lather when I travel or if I am in a rush. When I do I either use a shave stick which I rub all over the stubble or cream which I spread by hand a bit over my stubble. Then I use a wet brush to generate lather. My technique is to add water slowly and if the lather sticks to the razor and blade and won't rinse off, I know I don't have enough water!

    Thanks for the input guys.
Seems i should be loading the brush, then spread all over my face as soap, then lather from there.

I had been loading, then working the brush on one patch for a minute or so, then spreading and working from there, seemed a bit wrong so will try other method

Thanks for input, my face lathering went a lot better on Monday - thin layer all over then lather each area from there.

Not being too stingy with the product helps too
