Beer, BBQ, and Brushes --- Life is Good.
I have one of each but it is difficult for me to make an "apples to apples" comparison because they are very different sizes. Suffice to say, they are both great brushes. My Shavemac has a 22mm knot and a loft of 44mm whereas the Thäter is much larger and has a completely diffferent feel.

@djh: Can you say more about the "different feel" of the Thater? Is it just because its larger or is there something about the actual hair?

Hi Max,
I took a quick comparison shot this evening to give you (and obviously AgBill as well) an idea of how these two stack up. My Thäter is quite new and is a terrific brush- the Shavemac I have had for somewhat longer and it is great as well. Apart from the considerable size difference, the Shavemac is much more densely packed, I believe that the individual hairs have more backbone and with the short loft combined with incredible density, the brush provides a small contact area on the face with a very scrubby feel.
44 loft. hmmm. That would be scrubby.
Whats the loft on the Thater?

MaxP
I have the same Thaeter, and my loft is 54/55 mm. I also have a D01 two-band, a extreme flattop. Both are sweet brushes, but they just cannot be compared as they too far apart when it comes to shape, loft and knot diameter.
The Thaeter is the softest two-band I have ever used, like a cloud on your face. The next soft two-band would be my Rooney XL. The Shavemac, I would rank third, but I think the hair seems to be a bit thicker and stiffer than the Thaeter or the Rooney. Ask me in a few weeks, I hope to make me a D01 two-band in a fan shape and a little bigger knot (24 mm) than my flattop (20 mm).
