    Default ***Weber Razor***

Moderator edit: This thread is for specific comments about Weber Razors only. Off topic comments not specifically related to the razor will be removed. B&B continues to attempt to maintain open channels of communication with this vendor (who has joined B&B, but has not as of yet applied for a vendor subscription) and to confirm identity and provenance. In the meantime, we're pretty good at discussing razors around these parts, so have at it!

(Note: The prior Weber razor thread has been removed. The unfortunate reality is that some members and former members took more delight in confusion and drama than in discussion of the razor, as the thread intended, creating a thread that ran counter to the gentlemanly standards we strive to maintain here. Our apologies for any inconvenience or indigestion caused to the vast majority of members who come to B&B as a source of relaxation and camaraderie. )

    Gents:

This is definitely an all stainless steel razor. It has some weight to it. The fit is very good, the finish is obviously stainless steel and looks substantial. The head is polished well and the teeth are larger than other razors. It sounds different than other razors when you handle it. The knurling is nice and deep gives a different feel for machinists or carpenters they can relate this to an awl.

I have not shaven with this as of yet, but the appearance is an 8 out of 10, the difference is the all steel look, which I like, the knurling may be too much for other folks. Considering it is all stainless steel and build well, I give it a 9 out of 10. The fit appears really good and will give that a 9 out of 10.

If you are considering a Weber razor, all stainless steel I would recommend it, it is significantly cheaper than others and may be a good contender.

The shaving review will be posted later, tomorrow afternoon. This will be the real test!

Came in a nice box with an introduction card about the company how to use the razor and the one year warranty as well. The Shipper is out of Lake Saint Louis, Mo.

    Review:

    Gents:

Here is my early morning review of this razor as I am typing this it is 4:51 AM in So. Cal. and I just completed my shave.

I am new to wetshaving since the spring of last year, but I do know what I like and what works. I shave with two passes as anymore causes irritation. I kindly submit this brief review for your consideration.

    Prep:
    Hot shower
    Proraso preshave

    Tools:
    Weber razor
Astra blade (also came with the purchase but is my blade of choice)
    Edwin Jagger Brush, pure badger

    Soap
Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood Shaving Soap

As this manufacturer is not only making a handle but the head/business end of the razor my focus will shift to that.I found the razor easy to hold and maneuver. It accepted the blade easy enough and held it firmly in place.

I proceeded with my first pass and will describe it in the moderate-aggressive range. On a few passes with the grain it did feel more on the purely aggressive side. I checked my angle and proceeded with another pass, and will comment that it gave a more aggressive shave on a few passes. I am more of a EJ DE89L, or Merkur HD barber pole fan and tend to find the open combs aggressive to begin with, in any event the first pass went well with some indication of it being more on the aggressive side.

After a second lather and against the grain pass it went equally as well as the first pass. There was no pulling or dragging, until I reached my lower chin and upper lip. I did find a bit pull in those areas, which in general I don't find with my Astra EJ or Merkur combos.

I did find, and maybe my impression that one side of the blade was a bit more aggressive than the other, then again this can be my impression. I stopped my shave during my first pass and took a photo to depicting the top of the razor with the blade. I am a one cup of coffee drinker so the photo is the best that I can achieve. I do believe I see that one side is a bit more exposed than the other, but then again I am not measuring this more than my naked eye and could be incorrect.

As I am typing this review I can comment that this razor is more on the aggressive side. I did achieve a good shave, with some noticeable roughness during the process and I can sense that my cheeks and upper lip area will need a second passing of after shave lotion. I found this to be true when using my Gillette new open combs as well as my Muhle R41 open comb. I can tell you that I did not achieve a BBS or near-BBS shave that I can sometimes achieve (most of my shaves are on the near-BBS side, I rarely achieve BBS and am quite comfortable with this result with my other razors).

    Conclusion:

If you want an all stainless steel razor for $55 ,plus a few bucks more for S&H this razor is may be a contender as it is 1/3 the cost of a Feather stainless steel razor and 1/5 that of the Pils. This will be a durable razor considering all things and I believe considering its stainless quality can become a good travel razor or a good younger person's razor/college quality as it can take the abuse.

I will comment on the head and say that is in the moderate-good range, not great. It was a bit too aggressive for this reviewer.

If you are a collector and $55 is not a concern then I would consider purchasing this razor, the manufacturer states that it is made in America, which I will not contest. If you are undecided then I believe that there are other manufacturers out there that can provide a good open comb razor in this range, maybe not stainless, but you may not need stainless in the first place. As always your mileage may vary.

I am sure other members will post their reviews and add their pics!

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

See that the blade sticks out on the sides so much, you can read the number on it. Nice, but you have to be careful not to nick yourself with the sides.

    Gentlemen:

It is 5:45pm later this same day. This shave left me with much to be desired as I have experienced a bit more raw feeling than earlier this morning and some significant stubble growth.

From my earlier use and recollection the blade did not have any bows or crowns.

I will honestly comment that I may place this razor in my second tier for future use. I have other open combs that performed markably better with less noticable irritation.

I believe that this razor is a good attempt but not meant for this reviewer. It could work for individuals who enjoy an aggressive razor or someone with less beard thickness. I am am proud to have an all American razor as part of my collection.

Thank you and have a great shave.

    Default Hello Badger & Blade

I'm Ed Weber, co-owner of Weber Razor. You may have heard we have a new razor . I appreciate the interest and have been following the discussions. We are a new, small company that is trying to succeed in manufacturing stainless steel DE razors in the US. I want to thank Venom for his purchase and for taking the time to post his impressions of the razor. Suggestions are welcome...so far there we've heard that not everyone is crazy about the "W" on the head and we will take that into consideration. We are trying to start out slow and put out a good product while keeping the price close to some of the entry level razors. We've been working on prototyping and production processes for a year and next steps are to ramp up production and marketing. Thanks again and I look forward to additional input.

    Ed
