Default I'm new to the BB, but am back to DE shaving................

I have wet shaved over the years, trading off with a triple headed Norelco and an assortment of DE, single blades, Track II and even the Fusion. My Dad taught me shaving with both the Norelco and a Gillette Slim with canned foam. I was given a Norelco when one Granddad passed in 1979 and used that off and on for nearly 30 years. When my other Granddad passed in 1988, I was given his old razors, shaving mug & brush and a few bottles of Old Spice he had. I had no idea how to use the soap so Dad showed me that too, but by then was strictly an electric guy.

I never went back to Gel after that and the brush (an Ever-Ready150) and that Old Spice Mug have been used since with whatever soap I could find in the local drug store. Then recently a guy at work and I were talking shaving, je mentioned he was a diehard DE guy and mention I had a few of those stuck away. He gave me some Red Personna Israeli blades and a tube of Bigelow Cream. So, I found the razor’s left by Granddad and the Slim given to me by Dad. Turns out I had a D1 Toggle, a G4 Fat Boy and H3 Slim. The Toggle has some wear but is still in fair shape the Fat Boy & Slim (both with case and original paperwork) are in like new shape. From prices I’ve seen on eBay I guess I should just say I’m lucky with I have. I went out to West Coast Shaving and bought an assortment pack and some stands.

What I have found is the Toggle is by far the best of the three for shaving. I guess that’s why it has the wear, cause it looks like Granddad never used the Fat Boy. Anyway, I think I’m hooked on DE shaving now. I still fire up the Norelco when in hurry, I really like pampering that comes along with a shave an electric or modern blade setup can give, I guess I’m asking for suggestions on anything else that can make this experience continue. Oh, I have refilled one of the Old Spice classic bottles.

When did they go to plastic?? Thanks for any feedback!!

Slim, Toggle, and a Fatboy... what a fine frio of razors. That toggle is highly sought after, it's pretty rare. Cherish it!

Welcome to Badger & Blade. I believe Aqua Velva switched to plastic bottles in early 2010. There are older threads in the forum talking about it if you do a search.

Those are some nice vintage Gillette razors that you received from your grandfather and your father.

To improve the experience, there are two suggestions that I have for you.

    Brush

It looks like that Ever-Ready has seen quite a bit of use. You might want to do some reading in the shaving brush forum. There are some good brushes that you can get for $50 or less. I got a used Omega boar brush for $12 and it works really well. You can also purchase a new knot and put it in your Ever-Ready handle or pay someone to do it for you.

    Soap/Cream

It looks like you're using C.O Bigelow cream now. I've never used it myself but have heard it works well from members that have used it. You may want to take a look at other creams and even soaps. To try a lot of things fairly inexpensively, you can purchase samples from various vendors. Here's the ShaveWiki Shopping for Samples page. Also, you can get some excellent deals on brushes, soaps, and creams on the Buy/Sell/Trade (BST) forum.

I hope that you enjoy your time at B&B. I know that I felt overwhelmed when I first visited the site. There are so many great resources. If you want to know a great place to start, click on the link in my signature. That page has over two dozen links to some threads containing excellent information.

    Tell me this about a new account;
    1) how does one get the photo I loaded in my profile to show?
    2) how do you get off "Wetshaver Wannabe" status and
    3) how do you reply with a quote?
When I tried quote erplyI just saw bunch of characterized text.
When I used the signature in profile setup, it had limited character space.

    Thanks!!

    1. The profile picture and avatar are two different things. You uploaded a picture for your profile picture. Do the same thing for your avatar picture and the picture will show up in your posts.

    2. The titles that show up under your username are random unless you get a custom title from the moderators. These random titles will change as your post count reaches different levels.

    3. If you'd like to quote someone's response in your reply, just hit the "Reply With Quote" button in the lower right corner of that person's post. If you'd like to quote more than one person and reply to multiple people, click the button in the lower right with the quotation marks in the speech bubble for each post you'd like to quote, then hit "Reply With Quote" on the last post you want to quote. All those posts you selected will be quoted in your reply.

    4. Yes, the signature has limits on the number of characters, lines, and formatting based upon your contributor status. If you'd like to do more with your signature block, please consider becoming a contributing member of B&B. This link will take you to the contributions page where you can see what the benefits are for each level, copper, bronze, silver, and gold.
