Default Who taught you to shave?

TV and films often show learning to shave as a special father-son moment the memories of which should last a lifetime.
this is not what happened for me, my dad bought me a wilkinson protector and a can off foam and left me to get on with it. this did me know harm as i learnt how to shave without any problems.

How did everyone else learn how to shave, any amazing father-son moments or strange experiences?

I watched my father and grandfather shave - but they never taught me how. Basically learned on my own through trial and error. My grandfather had the toughest beard and skin in creation. He would do everything we frown about today. He did a two pass shave, WTG and ATG and put quite a bit of pressure on the blade. However, he never cut or nicked himself. My father, on the other hand, always has some bits of toilet paper on his face to stop the bleeding.

No father/son moment for me. Tought myself completely the wrong way. I won't be making that mistake with my son thanks to this place - and Mantic of course.

Self taught here too, there's bugger all to it when it's a cart and canned foam. But straights are a different story

I, also, taught myself. I was out of the house before I really had to shave much at all - too much Cherokee in my blood.

B&B taught me how to shave. I'm not sure how to describe what it was I had been doing to my face for the 37 years before.

My dad told me the basics. Wet the skin, work in lather, shave carefully whilst rinsing often, and rinse with hot then cold water. The strange thing is that he used, and still uses, a Gillette Knack DE, a boar brush with a Palmolive shave stick. However, because I thought such things were 'uncool' at that point he actually went out and bought me a Sensor Excel and some trendy Gillette Gel for my first shave!

My brother taught me to shave when I was about 15 with a cartidge razor. (wilkinson handle with gillette contour cartridge).

I could never shave consecutive days due to irritation. Converted to electric (both wet and dry) years later which was better but still not very satisfying.

Now 33 and finally learned about the ways of DE shaving through this forum 4 weeks ago. Have only skipped 1 day since (illness, did not have a steady hand) and look forward to tomorrow's shave!
Joris (not the razor). If you consider it as a hobby, you shave for free.

Watched my Dad shave every morning when I was a little kid and when I turned 15 he gave me a G1 Schick, Williams puck, and a brush. That will be 51 years ago this coming July, and I still use that G1 Schick.

Mostly myself, I got a very basic few instructions from my father, though I don't remember it as the bonding moment you see in the movies and on TV. And of course like all the rest of us that learned in the late 80s it was with a cartridge razor and some can of stuff maybe barbasol. I plan to teach my son with a brush and soap and either a safety or my new (to me) straight. If he'll learn it that way anyways. :)
