  1. Default Anybody do THIS with a straight?

I have seen several versions of shaving with an axe, a knife and a meat cleaver. Impressive stuff I can assure you and they all fall into the category of, “Bet you haven’t tried this.” In that spirit, has anyone tried shaving with a straight and NO MIRROR?

I'm sure they have, I can generally get the right angle without looking, but I've got a chin strap beard (a proper one, not one of those wussy pencil-thin ones ) so I wouldn't risk mutilating it by not using a mirror

Some wonder when I mention I'm 2/3 straight and 1/3 DE!
(Not that there's anything WRONG with that!)

I have. I took it nice and slow, no nicks, no cuts, no irritation... BUT I did miss a fair amount of my beard where I neglected to stretch to the full extent I could have (for reasons of fear...). I had to finish up with a mirror :).

I've never tried any type of shaving without a mirror. I don't think I'd like to try.

My Dad (he's 85) tells a story about his uncle shaving while standing in the front door way without a mirror. He says the ol boy used to say, you don't know your own face in you need a mirror to shave with. He was the only one in my Dads family that he (my Dad) remembers using a straight razor.

    No biggie really.
Most head-shavers never uses the mirror.

I really don't think it would be much trouble doing it without a mirror.
Just think of what it is that makes you adjust angle & stuff. Feeling against the skin, sound, what not. Certainly not the mirror.

I shave parts of my neck blind. I have to stretch my skin really tight on my neck, which results in me basically looking at the ceiling. It isn't as difficult or scary as you might think.

The hardest part is atg around the ears. The rest is a cake walk.

I think I'd rather shave without a mirror than in the shower.

Never tried it before, but I am confident I could if I wanted to.... which I don't.

Why would shaving in the shower with a mirror be problematic (other than the cold water!)

Maybe it is because I have only been using a straight for a month but I can’t IMAGINE the shower... I need all the focus I can muster as it is!

Done a couple of headshaves with the Wacker.
I was in front of the mirror, but not having eyes in the back of my head, it wasn't much of a help. I did use it a bit around the ears, but 90% of it was by feel.

That said, I can't imagine shaving my face without the mirror. I like my ears and nose where they are.... not in the sink
