Default Ever try foaming hand soap as shaving soap?

We've use Dial foaming hand soap in our house for some time but I just now noticed this morning, while washing my hands in the kitchen, just how slick it felt. Now, I've got plenty of shaving soap and cream on hand and am not likely to be a guinea pig here but I wondered if any of you brave lads have ever tried this and, if so, the result? It certainly felt better than canned shaving soap.

Oh I'm sure someone has. But with all my great soaps/creams, I'll pass.

Ha. I used method hand wash and a shavette once and I got one of the best shaves of my life. I think it was because of all the glycerin in it, and the constant re-application. (Was recovering from inebriation and almost missed my best friends wedding).

That sounds like the most repulsive shaving idea I have ever heard.

I've often wondered about using a regular bar of soap. I imagine you could get a decent lather. It's all about the amount of water, so if you are swirling a brush on a bar of dial and it isn't completely soaked, I bet you could approximate the lather from a shaving soap. Also, I bet if you used a soap with moisturizers like Dove, you could also not completely dry out your skin.

My solution is VDH which is insanely cheap and works really well.

you need both slip/lubrication and protection. A great shaving soap/cream doesn't wash off clean easily.

    Doable? Yes.
    Optimal? No.

Well I assume most of us here are into wetshaving partly because the thought of the deodorant like scents from canned goo is repellant. Hand soap on your face is in my mind worse than canned goo. Artificial, strong smells. Ewwww. I'll keep my sandalwood and MWF.

I think that'd be pretty drying. Those liquid hand soaps are all detergent (SLS/SLES) based, aren't they?

I'm sure someone out there has the stones to do it. I'm passing on this challenge, though.

I can't even be in a bathroom that has dial soap in it without sneezing and my hands itching... worst- scent- ever!

Plus it really dries out my hands. I would hate to put my face through that!

I have done it, while traveling and in a pinch. Lets just say, it was less than optimal. There are lots of inexpensive options for real shaving soap, try those, you will be much happier

I might try it with Queen Charlotte's Dragon's Blood tallow hand soap, but no way with Dial foaming lye.

Fixed that for you. ;) I absolutely abhor those foaming hand wash things. There is never enough product that comes out of the spout to make me confident that they are cleaning my hands. In fact, the Dial Foaming Antibacterial Hand Wash that is currently in my lav is my arch nemesis. There is no slickness, no protection, nothing other than lots of air in a couple of drops of product. The "lather" collapses almost instantly and leaves no protection what so ever.

Combined with the fact that triclosan (antibac agent) has been implicated in some bacterial resistance so I prefer to use good old fashioned real SOAP to wash my hands when possible (I often get out-voted, though).
