    Default Domenico Caraceni 1913

This is not going to be a long drawn out post, nor will it be technical with breakdown of notes. I just had to share the news of receiving this scent this morning. I have been meaning to pick up a bottle for some time. I have their shaving cream, and sadly since it is not produced, I tend not to use it as much as I did. The scent of the cream has a rose not unlike any other I have smelled. I am thrilled to say that their cologne smells EXACTLY the same as the cream to my nose. Even though the cream might not be around any longer, I can certainly enjoy the scent as long as their cologne is produced.

It is indeed an awesome scent, although I don't yet on a full bottle. I might buy one at some point when and if my decant gets used up. My problem with it is that for me it is a very formal suit and tie type of scent. I just don't get put together with such formality very often, so it's use is quite limited.

I've got a bit of the shaving cream as well and would love to pick up a tub if it were to ever become available again.

Apparently they WILL make more of the cream, we just need to order a pallet of it. That's quite the group buy.

DC 1913 EdT is not one I reach for too often. I love the scent, very distinctive, but can be quite overpowering in my job, where I have to work quite close to people.

Wow, had not heard that the DC SC is now out of production, very distressing to know!

It has been unavailable for at least six months. Im glad I was able to buy my tub a few years ago. In regular rotation, it will last me a few more years.

The shaving cream goes in and out of production. Who knows what the determining factor is. DC is one of the best. Later this week ...

That's a shame that DC cream is out of production. Hopefully it will be back in by the time I run out. Any danger of the fragrance going the same way?

I have not thoroughly researched but I read a lot about frags and DC puzzles me. It would seem through here and Basenotes to have a bit of a following and is generally perceived to "smell good," even by many who would not necessarily buy it. Yet its distribution seems severly limited here and in most of Europe as well. Maybe they sell it in 7-11s in Italy and we're all splashing ourselves with Italian equivalent of Mennens Skin Bracer. But they seem to keep making it. One of the few bottles I loved so much in my early AD days I backed it up.

I really do agree with you there, it does just smell good. I find it amusing that some people become "scent snobs" so to speak. Call me crazy, but I still think that CK One, which can be bought at any drugstore is one scent that I will always own. I am in it more for the scent rather than the exclusive house that makes it. If Procter & Gamble makes the next wonder, ill be in line to at least try it out.

DC 1913 combines clean, manly, and bold all in 1 frag. And it's a rose! No wonder so many people like it. Very work safe IMO. Wife thinks it smells like soap.

It certainly does have a soapy smell to it. The longevity is great as well. I was able to get 12+ hrs after the application.

I do find it a little harsh, especially the opening, to my nose compared to other roses like Windsor. Must be by sinuses. Some frags give me a harsh sinus thing going including GIT and MI from Creed. DC 1913 does this. Hanae Mori also does this for me.

It's an aspect of human nature. Happens with wine all the time - people chase labels and ignore great tasting wines that are available for $10 a bottle. That said, with wine and scents, while there are wonderful bargains and expensive flops - there really are some things whose complexity and quality can't be made cheaply. I happily drink inexpensive Cotes du Rhone with my dinner - but it doesn't command 100% of my attention the way a great old bottle of Bordeaux can.

FYI, a certain B&B vendor (randy/archfire) now has decants of this.

I get the same thing with HM, almost like it's so super sweet that it becomes unpleasant
