Well I had to join in on this just for the fun of it. I do not have many vintage/discontinued items save for three or four items. Including a cake of Trumper tallow almond soap.

So today it was the EL shave soap
    Avon Leather a/s
    Gillette ajustable(slim set to 4)
    Feather DE blade.
    B&B 2009 Butterxcotch Kent

To say it was exemplary is understated. It is nice to know that at one time this sort of morning shave could have been considered normal if you paid a bit of attention. I suspect the MEM English Leather soap is from the early seventies. It has no bar code. It almost assuredly tallow and probably carried an "expensive" price tag in those days of around $2.99. Stands toe to toe with the best of them.

Now I just need to get my hands on some genuine MEM English Leather a/s. This was my Da's scent of choice and it smelled better on him than it ever has on me. I wish I could have gotten him into this before he passed nearly a decade ago. I would give just about anything to see him lathering up a brush full of this soap and finishing it off with some MEM EL from my childhood.

    Cheers, Todd

I have a good Monday "Mourning" shave planned for tomorrow using several new acquisitions: Wilkonson Flip Top Razor, Vintage Personna blades, C&E Sweet Almond Shaving Cream and Yardley Spice aftershave. I can hardly wait.

    Today shave was:

    Razor: Cobra Classic
Blade: Kai mild blade with 9 shaves on it.
    Brush: Thater Cream Stout 2
    Soap: RazoRock Thirdeye
    A/S: Old Spice
    Cologne: Old Spice*

The only part of my shave that really counted as a mourning shave was the cologne.

I had to alter my proposed "Mourning" shave. Although I did indeed start with the Wilkinson Flip Top, I ditched it after one pass in favor of the Cobra Classic. I just cannot put that thing down. The C&E Sweet Almond Cream was fantastic as was the splash of Yardley Spice aftershave.

    The "Mourning" Shave

    Razor: Gillette Fat Boy*
    Blade: Schick Plus Platinum*
    Brush: Vie-Long Prototype (Horse)*
    Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
    Soap: Colgate Mug Soap*
    A/S: Kings Men*

I enjoyed an excellent shave today from items that are mostly out of production. In the case of the Vie-Long prototype, it is not yet in production so I figured it was fair game for the "Morning Shave". This was my 2nd use of the Vie-Long prototype brush and it is evident that it will be great for either bowl lathering or face lathering. I can hardly wait!

    Razor: Weck Open Comb*
    Blade: English Wilkinson*
    Brush: Semogue LE Boar*
    Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
    Soap: Woods of Windsor*
    A/S: Houbigant Fougere Royale*

An excellent shave from mostly discontinued items. The Houbigant Fougere Royale was recently obtained in a trade with John (churchilllafemme) and is a very pleasant addition to my rotation.

How do you rate the Woods of Windsor soap? I have a puck sitting under my sink, maybe it's time to break it out.

The tallow version of WOW is really nice even though you do not hear much mention of it. I also have the veggie version but have not tried it yet.

Soap: Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet (Tallow Version)*

Now that the holidays are over, I am back to my regular routine of using mainly discontinued (and missed) shaving items on Mondays -Something I dub the Monday "Mourning" Shave. Everything marked with an * is dearly departed.

I enjoyed an excellent shave followed by a refreshing splash of Yardley aftershave. I believe that the aftershave is from the 1960's and am amazed that it is still good.
    Wow, that's an All-Star Lineup.

    Razor: Gibbs Click Pen*
    Blade: Polsilver*
    Brush: Shavemac 2007 LE*
    Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
    Soap: Trumper Sandalwood (Tallow)*
    A/S: Trumper Marlborough*

I enjoyed an excellent shave with mainly discontinued items. The Limited Edition Shavemac brush ginned up a nice creamy lather from the Tallow version of Trumper Sandalwood soap and the Gibbs Click Pen with the recently discontinued Polsilver blade mowed down the stubble with ease. A splash of Trumper Marlborough (no longer available as an aftershave) and I am ready for the day. Very nice indeed!

    Monday February 20th

    Cobra Classic
Feather Pro Guard (today was the 8th shave on the FPG and it's still going strong)
    Shavemac D01
    Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet (tallow 5th)*
    Aqua Lavanda Puig
    Kouros*

Looking at the YSL web site it appears the Kouros is no longer in production, they offer Body Kouros and Kouros Sport.

The discontinued tallow 5th Blenheim Bouquet is a great shaving soap, If I wasn't saving this soap it would be in my rotation more often.

Razor: Vintage Weck Open Comb* (Thanks Obie)
    Blade: Schick Plus Platinum*
    Brush: Shavemac 2007 LE*
    Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
    Soap: Trumper Violet (Tallow Version)*
    A/S: Yardley Spice*

I enjoyed an excellent shave with mostly discontinued items (marked with an *). The Weck Open comb is a mild shaver but it gave me a great 3 pass shave. The old tallow version of the Trumper soaps are excellent and it is a real shame that they felt the need to reformulate to a veggie base. A splash of Yardley Spice and I am on my way.

I know it's late but I didn't get a chance to post this morning. So here was my Monday Mourning Shave.

    Razor: Muhle R41
    Blade: Super Iridium*
    Brush: B&B 2009 LE*
    Soap: Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet(Tallow Version)*
    A/S: Proraso ASB

Today was the first time I tried the Pen's tallow and it was amazing. The scent and the quality of the lather were top notch. If this soap wasn't so rare It would easily be number one in my rotation. It's definitely a shame this soap has been reformulated.

I used C&E Sweet Almond Oil this morning too. I'm mostly use soaps so it was surprising how much cream it took to make enough lather for three passes. The lather was great, slick, it had lots of cushion, it was well hydrated, and my face feels great post shave.

Very nice thread. And a very fun idea.
I learn from each post as I start researching the unknown items.

I feel I might join tomorrow by using:
    • A Gillette Old Type (it's open comb March!)
    • Mama Bears Oakmoss Lavender
    • Semogue 2010 Limited Edition Silvertip
    Wim

    Have a nice day!

    Razor: iKon Bulldog OC*
    Blade: Super Iridium*
    Brush: Simpson Ehsan*
    Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
    Soap: Yardley Black Label*
    A/S: Houbigant Fougere Royale*

I have several bowls of Yardley shave soap but only one bowl of the black label variety. To me, the black label is the best of the lot...it produces an extremely rich and slick lather and sets up my beard perfectly for a shave. I had a truly enjoyable and close shave today followed by a splash of Houbigant Fougere Royale aftershave. All items, with the exception of the Glyce Lime soap, have been discontinued.

Phil - Is it the Plisson shave soap refils that fit the Joris Thuja Wood Shaving Bowl? Any idea if any other refills fit, specifically DR Harris?
