Night before last was Old Pulteney 21yr. Big oak, sweet, and very smooth. Lots of grain. Dark sugars.
Last night was Highland Park 15yr. Fresh and somewhat light. Vegetal notes and smoke.

The last of a bottle of Evan Williams 1783. What a decent bourbon for the price! I'll take it over Jim Beam or Jack Daniel's for a budget American whiskey any day. A nice mild whiskey that would serve as an excellent introduction for anyone wanting to try an American whiskey neat. Mixing this one or watering/icing it down would be a crime. Try this one neat, at room temperature.
Many hot dogs are within you.
A dram of Highland Park 12 year old tonight. My first sampling of this malt and I like it. It has peaty, smoky qualities of an Islay and sherried qualities of a Speyside dram. A very nice offering from Orkney.

I'd love to try the 15 but the difference in price means that it will likely not happen. Here in Oz I bought a bottle of the 12 year old for $68 AUD but for the 15 they want $160 AUD. While I'm sure that the 15 is smoother and more complex, I doubt it's THAT much better.

I consumed the last of The Bowmore 12. I'm not really a fan.

Heineken. The greatest beer ever made. YMMV DOES NOT apply to beer!!!!
Last night, a bottle of Theakston's Old Peculier.
I must say, I think it travelled well.
(above poster - the only time I drink Heineken is if its free. I'd rather have a Miller Lite. YMwillalmostcertainlyV.)

GI 2013. Tempt me not.
I was slightly mistaken with my quoted price for the 15 year old. The 12 year old HP runs $68 AUD, the 15 is around $90AUD while the 18 year old is $168. We pay a huge amount of tax on booze in Australia. I was in Honolulu earlier in the year and was amazed at the price of liquor at the ABC stores. So cheap.

Celebrating father's day (with my old man of course) I had Pear Brandy before dinner, a glass of Rioja wine with the steak and grilled asparagus and shots of Fernet Branca all around to cap off the evening.

I've spent half the money I've earned in my life on wetshaving, tobacco, booze and music. The other half I've just wasted.
Generous dram of Lagavulin 16 year old tonight.

Last night was a measure of "Tomintoul with a Peaty Tang". The bottle has no date or age specification. The peaty tang is more like a mightly peaty fist in a smouldering peaty glove that repeatedly punches you in the mouth. I *really* like peaty scotch and this fits the bill. More openly peaty than anything else I've had. I don't know the ppm but it's gotta be way up there. Without the peat, I'd say the scotch is a plain old Speyside and mostly unremarkable. Not bad at all. I look forward to my next encounter with Fist of Peat.

Two helpings of Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey. Very nice on a chilly evening first day of summer.
My mileage does vary.
