Creed Green Valley (1999)
Accords: Fresh Spicy, Green, Musky, Earthy, Woody, Citrus
Top: Mandarine, Bergamot
Middle: Ginger, Black Currant
Base: Ambergris, Musk

Comparing Accords
citrus: mandarine v.s. french verbena
green/herbal: bergamot v.s. violet leaves
spicy/woody: ginger v.s. mysore sandalwood
foral: black currant v.s. florentine iris

It's amazing how these two frags can smell so much alike when they share no ingredients aside from Creed's signature ambergris. If I hadn't worn GIT for a while and mistakenly applied GV, I think I would have a hard time knowing it for the first 6 hours or so. After 6-8 hours though, GV turns powdery from the added musk and after 8-10 hours fades away. GIT is pretty much linear on my skin, but maybe a little greener in the opening. The French Verbena in GIT is amazing, providing a bright lemony top note lasting 12 hours and this frag does not turn powdery on my skin like GV. I also get a bit of spiciness coming through from the sandalwood in GIT, but not the actual sandalwood itself. GIT is the clear winner for me.

Eau de Vetyver
by Givenchy
vintage

Absolutely one of the best classic vetivers ever made. Where Guerlain tempered theirs with tobacco, Givenchy tempers theirs with a nutty almond note that actually gives it a touch of "sandalwood" and a fairly odd but enjoyable feel. I'm wearing a vintage version that is absolutely phenomenal once it gets going (the top notes are a bit damaged but once the earthy rooty vetiver and almond get rolling it's fantastic). I haven't tried the current formulation so no opinion on their differences but I highly recommend any vetiver fans to check out the vintage version of this one. It is perhaps the most quintessential vetiver ever made.

Not sure what I have had is vintage or the re-release--they are said not to be very different. But this is a good one. Not my favorite vetiver, but a top notch, classic scent. Has its own sport along the spectrum of versions of vetiver.

Today, Molianard Vetyver (vintage)--very raw, very good vetiver. I do not think I have had the current version and I am not sure how vintage, vintage is in this case.

Caswell-Massey Greenbriar (2012)
Accords: Herbal, Citrus, Fresh Spicy, Woody, Powdery, Earthy
Top: Artemisia, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Lemon
Middle: Lavender, Thyme, Sage
Base: Sandalwood, Vetiver, Amber

Greenbriar opens with a sweet minty note which soon gives way to an earthy herbal mixture of lavender, sage and thyme. I get a sence of groundcover, but maybe more of an unkept lawn overgrown with weeds as opposed to a well-groomed golf coarse as shown on the label. After 6 hours the herbs give way to a sweet woody accord with the sandalwood and amber coming forward and lasting for a couple more hours. Greenbriar is an EDC so it is pretty hard to over-apply this one, but it lasts a surprisingly long time on my skin. With GIT I get more of a sense of wildflower groundcover with that prominent sweet lemony verbena top note which last for 12 hours. I am not particularly a fan of thyme or amber so naturally GIT wins another round of comparisons, but I found Greenbriar to be well balanced and inoffensive.
