    Ensar's Oud Emerald

An Indonesian oud oil with a deep, rich opening. Then suddenly pretty tame to my nose. No barnyard smells in this one. I get mostly leather and woods, with a light herbal note.

You'll have to read the comments that I have added. Noses change so I may need to dig out my K10 and give it another wear, but from what I can remember that one smelt like an old shoe shop and I wasn't too fond of it.

I ride a motor scooter most of the time. I get between 80-115 miles to the gallon when I do. On those rare days that I drive my old beater of a car, I get 8 miles to the gallon, YMMV, mine sure does.

And thanks for sending me to the dictionary to make sure I know what perjorative means, Robbie! And yes, I probably do categorize most scents available in department stores as generally not quite as good in quality as those that are harder to find, although I know that is not always the case, and of which Guerlain's Vetiver is a good example.

I like your thought of a separate category, Jason. Not that all fragrances have to be categorized, but we do have a tendency to do that.
You might not have to go to the dictionary if I could spell! Should be "pejorative." Interesting etymology and the OED does not have text using the current definition until 1928, while most dictionaries, at least on-line ones do not reference any others.

Useful word. Similar words seem largely much stronger, which is not always what one wants to be.

To the extend I was disparaging any frags, and I am not sure I was, it was not frags found in department stores, but "designer" frags. But if frags from some of the major French houses are desginer frags, I do not mean to disparage designer frags as a group, either. I sure cannot dis Guerlain, Dior, or for that matter Boucheron. Must be lots of others. I think Knize actually makes clothes. DC does.

For me, today, current version of MPG Santal Noble.

    Diorella
    by Dior

Lemon, basil, bergamot, melon, green note; Peach, honeysuckle, jasmine, rose, cyclamen; Oakmoss, vetiver, patchouli, musk

Diorella is to Eau Sauvage what Vetiver pour elle is to Guerlain Vetiver. I was surprised by the opening notes, which was so familiar until I realized it smelled just like Eau Sauvage, but not long after figuring that out, Diorella takes a slightly floral & musk direction. The drydown is a very green chypre recalling Profumo, Givenchy III, Heure Exquise, or even Chanel 19. The transformations from opening to close are amazing, fun, and superbly constructed. Diorella is a masterpiece and quite possibly the coolest chypre I've ever experienced. I just wish I knew whether this was vintage or reformulation.
