Today: ASAQ's Blue Ambergris layered under Providence Perfumes' Rose Bohème.

    From Providence Perfumes' website:

A decidedly bohemian rose scent created with rich aged patchouli, fir, red tea, rare white rose essence, agarwood, saffron, turkish rose and artisan rose petal infusion.

Charna, the founder & nose of Providence Perfumes, told me she used a low-grade Bornean oud for this blend. Honestly, I can't make it out. But the scent is so well made -- lush & seductive -- that I don't miss it. This isn't a light, girly rose perfume. It's darker & richer than that. I feel comfortable wearing it but I could easily see this as being more of a woman's perfume.

It's all-natural and the longevity, unfortunately, won't be that great. That's why I layered it over some Blue Ambergris, which essentially is real ambergris in oil. Hopefully that'll give it some legs.

Didn't like it at first a couple years ago. After testing a bunch of vetivers looking for one I could love, I may be back to the starting place and buying a bottle of GV soon

SMN "Heliotrope"--I was not familiar with the heliotrope accord. Said to be "cherry pie," almond, marzipan (what is the difference between marzipan and almond?), vanilla, and anise.

This one seems flowery drying to powdery. I do get a little anise in there, which is welcome to me. I cannot find it on-line. No idea whether marketed feminine or unisex.

Reminds of a colorful carnival on a bright sunshiny day for some reason. Seems uplifting in the way that lavender is. I am surprised at how much I like it.

As I have said, SMN almost never disappoints me!

Thought about wearing Fieno ("Hay") today, but it seemed just too sweet. Or maybe it was "Broom" I was sniffing and found too sweet. How many different scents does a house need? I guess being around hundreds of years allows development of lots of scents. Very solid House this one, if often, but not always, a little light in "texture" to be an absolute fav of mine.

They are becoming my favorites too. I find Ginestra marvelous, but I satisfy my needs with it with occasional sniffing in the store. Texture if that is what I think you meant, I could find some of that in Nostalgia and to some point in Potpourri. Too bad but I don't like either. Marescialla, Eva, Lavanda Imperiale, Ginestra, Peau d'Espagne, Colonia Russa, AdC all great scents IMHO. Considering the diversity, well, I think that Italian monks must have been bored before the Internet was invented.

My scent of the day is Pinaud VIBR (I know, I am boring, but I have only a couple signature scents). I just returned from the barber shop and the barber did not use any of his aromas on me so there is no clashing of scents. One thing I have noticed since I have really gone whole hog into quality shaving, I am more concerned about the entire package than I ever was before. When one has a very good shave, one feels better and as a result, one wishes to look better. Now I have to go up and iron my clothing for work. I work night shift and nobody sees me there, but I might as well look as good as I feel
