L'Occtaine Vetyver
Givenchy - Vetyver
I ride a motor scooter most of the time. I get between 80-115 miles to the gallon when I do. On those rare days that I drive my old beater of a car, I get 8 miles to the gallon, YMMV, mine sure does.
How's that for a quick summary of the week so far? But I'm not done, today I whipped out my "vintage" Santal Noble by Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier.
No, not because I want to sell it, but because I was really hankering for a rich and manly sandalwood (and almost went with B2K) and could almost smell it. It's always a great feeling when my olfactory memory works that well for me AND I can recall the name of whatever it is I'm conjuring. I'm going to have another one of those days today (not to worry, it's only a 3-day work week next week!) and wanted something special. I have a slew of "special" fragrances that get bypassed for other things that I'm either testing of the first time or still deciding whether to keep, which is a shame. So, it's Friday (sung like Sinatra) and I smell fantastic. Especially now that I've some considerable experience with high quality sandalwood oils, I can say that Santal Noble - at least the "vintage" (older 90mL bottles as opposed to the newer 100mL bottles, although I've honestly never tried the newer one) - has real mysore sandalwood in it. I can also detect some patchouli, and some amber, but that's about it. It's like there were no opening notes, it went straight to Santal - lovely! This and Santalum are perhaps my favorite sandalwood perfumes (not including sandalwood oils or mukhallats in this comparison).

Today: Agar Aura's Tropica. My bottle's now nearly a year old and the blend is aging beautifully. The main notes of rose, Bornean oud & ambergris -- especially the ambergris! -- have really bonded together in a rich, warm way. It's like a fresh, briny, rosy softness. Brilliant stuff, and perfect for summer!

Montale Taj - I'm relly enjoying this one today!
I just got a bottle of this and it is currently one of my favorites. It'll be a go to scent in the fall but can certainly be enjoyed year round.
Today I'm wearing MFK APOM PH - If I gave this abbrevation to SWMBO or friends outside of this forum they'd think I was crazy...

Proraso ASB followed by TOBS Shaving Shop Cologne. Absolutely brilliant stuff.

Hadrien Absolu is a stronger version of Eau d'Hadrien, whose citrit notes last all day on the skin ( at least on my skin). The notes are, as per Annick Goutal site, sicilian lemon, citron, grapefruit, green mandarine, cypress, aldehyde notes, ylang-ylang. But on my skin the lemon is the dominant note.
Eau du Sud is also a citric scent, but i can detect in the dry down a smooth note of jasmine. IMHO Eau du Sud is more sofisticated and i really love it.
But they are both very very good and Fantastic Summer scents

Absolutely wonderful notes, Chris. Immediately above, and the previous set for sure.
I hate to hear that vintage MPG Santal Noble had real Mysore sandalwood in it. I always say that I do not know enough to know what smells likes real Mysore SW, and what does not. It has a wonderful sandalwood accord, but I completely agree that sandalwood is about all there is to it. It is almost not scentmaking. An enormous contrast with the current MPG SN, which is very complex and very much toward a masterpiece of scentmaking to my nose. I have said in the past that I like the current version better than the vintage, and I think that is still true. But is sure is not because of the sandalwood in the new version. The smell of good sandalwood is just so, so special. The loss of reasonable access to Mysore sw, is so said. The day may come when the same can be said about oud.
I completely agree re St. Charles, Creed Cuir de Russie, and vintage Creed Tabarome. I do not know the Pascal Morabito Or Black. Who is it around here who said he wanted the coffin he was buried in to be filled with CdR? Something about that scent goes straight to my lower brain stem and sets off sparks!
Today for me, Creed "Feuille Verte." Some wag somewhere said "I think that's the scent you smell passing the Gates of Heaven." I'm not saying that he is right, but I sure as heck "understand."

Will I fall beneath the shadow of some broken cross? My arms emptied and all my treasures lost?
Today may be a non-shaving day. I have not decided yet, but if I do shave, I will use Pinaud VIBR. If I do not shave, I will apply a bit of Pinaud Flesh colored talc and get a slight scent from that.
