Default Newbie with a promising start

Newbie checking in from Northern MI.

Received my Edwin Jagger and other implements for Christmas after tons of research and not so subtle hint dropping.

I'm happy to say that on my first shave I could "hear" the blade working. The whole process felt very natural for me, with no cuts and very little irritation. I'm only 5 days in, and am already so much more satisfied than I was with the marrow-taking, burn-inducing Mach whatever.

I'm using the Derby Extras that came with the razor, and just ordered some Feathers. I know that the Feathers are sometimes considered an "advanced" blade, but I'm patient and careful. I take my time with my prep, and take my time with my shave.

I've got a lot to learn, but already I'm very happy with my decision.

Fantastic! The change to a double edge razor had the same positive effect on me.

The relief from the irritation a multi-edge razor brought my face tickles me even now, close to two years after changing.

I wish I had discovered this in the early 70s when I started shaving. For all those years my face felt chapped beginning Tuesday and I didn't shave on weekends unless I absloutely had to do so. In those days it wasn't socially acceptable to skip shaving on a work day.

Welcome. Just remember with any blade you use, the blade angle and no pressure rule applies.
