    Default Another Newbie Checking in

    Hello,

I have been lurking for a while, figured I would wait and post until I had a couple shaves under my belt.

I started with the CE Best Badger ($17.50 at an C&E Outlet Store), the Merker 38C, and today I had my first shave with Mama Bear Soap.

Of course with any beginner there was a little bit of a learning curve. I switched to DE because like so many other people here, my neck could not handle the mach 3. So as expected my neck has taken most of the brunt of learning to shave with the DE. I find it gets better the more shaves I have on a blade. I have only switched the blade once so far, but the first shave with the second blade, was almost just as bad as the first shave ever. I am using Merker blades as well, I am thinking I should go with something more forgiving.

The learning curve has gone faster than expected though, although I still have rough days, I notice I am getting better every shave.

On a side note, I love the Mama Bear Soap. I wasn't sure it could live up to all the hype around here, but it did and then some.

Welcome to B&B. Looks like you have a great set up and a good start. It will get better as you learn. You might get a blade sampler that will let you try different blades to see which works best for you particular face and beard type. I personally never had any luck with Murker blades but some like them. Good luck as you shaves progress.

    Welcome to B&B!

Check out a blade sampler from www.westcoastshaving.com This will give you 5 blades from each of the top 5 most respected and popular blade brands.

Also just do 2 N-S passes until you get the hang of things, this will be much easier on your face.

    Good luck and Good Shaves

I do need to get a blade sampler pack. But for the mean time, I corked a fresh blade last night. Got a much smoother shave with fewer nicks. Granted, I have more experience under my belt, but I think the corking helped a lot.

    Read about corking here.

Welcome, you have a great start and starting setup. I also started with Merkur, Using Derby's now. Get the sampler pack at WWW.WESTCOASTSHAVING.COM. That will give you a great selection to choose from.
    Best Regards
