Lather "slickness" problem.......

Ok Gentlemen, bear with me as my writing skills arent quite up to snuff, so lets hope i can get this problem into a comprehendable post. Ive been using C.O. Bigello cream ever since i started DE shaving. Whenever i try to a ATG pass, the blade will actually "skip"across my face. This leads to me having a mighty sore face. So the other night i whipped out my old trusty American Crew non lathering cream that my wife brings home from the salon. Now this stuff is super super slick. When I went ATG with this stuff absolutely no skip.......But i guess the question I'm trying to ask is am I lathering this Bigelow correctly? Is this stuff just less slick than the American Crew or am i doing something wrong?

Do a little test and see if you are getting max slickness from your cream.
Start with a fairly dry brush when you start making your lather, rub some lather between your thumb and index finger and feel how slick it is, add a few drops of water to the lather and test again. Keep doing this *** you add water, and you'll eventually figure out which cream/water ratio works best for max slickness.
I don't know how the Bigelow cream compares to the Proraso soap I have, but my Proraso is slickest when the lather is pretty dense and thick. Other soaps/creams can differ, some are slicker when thinner and with more water added.

Bigelow and Proraso are the same formula. I would try it both thick and thin as well. I dont recall if Proraso does it or not but, sometimes if I have a light coat of lather left after a pass I just add a dab of water and my skin feels pretty slick. Give a nice wet slightly thin lather a shot too.

I would also suggest slowing down and changing the blade. Sharp blades never skip for me...less than new will skip for me.

I use C.O. Bigelow and for an almond size dab of cream it takes about 2 to 3 teaspoons of water. Just keep rubbing some between your thumb and finger tell its slick then add several more drops.

More product, slowly add water, and agitation.

My biggest personal revelation (ymmv) of late has been actually swirling, churning and plunging that brush into the mix for a good 2 minutes.

No more limp wristed toying with that lather, Mad Man gets mad with his lather and guess what? It WORKS!

Thanks for the replies guys. But in your experiances, is a properly lathered Bigellow(proraso) slicker than a canned goo?? Because what i keep whipping up is no where near as slick.

Mad Mad's advice is spot on, especially with Bigelow/Proraso. Pump the brush up and down a few times when swirling. I find it helps the aeration.

I face lather, but agree that more agitation and mixing helps with just about any product.

I also find I almost always can add more water than I think, and improve the lather quality...
