Default Tell me about this Gilette Open Comb I recently aquired. Caution RAD straights too

I posted last week about my trip to the land of severly overpriced. Where soap scum, stains, and brassing equal new or hardly used. Rusty broken blade no name straights sell for over $35.00 a piece. I observed two gold colored Gillete open Combs. The later being a heavier version and different head. Unfornately, the combs were bent and there was cracking. Upon closer inspection of the one I aquired, The combs were straight. There was absolutely no cracking. The Gillette Logo was legible along with "Known The World Over". Numbers C702916 It looked like it would clean up well. I made an offer that I thought was close enough to B&B deals to make it an acpetable prucahse. My offer was accepted and I am the proud owner of this.

Reading about all the people who swear by Open Combs or Slants has gotten me intrested in at least trying them once. I know realize this model actually used a thicker blade to center it. (something like that, read about it but not claiming to be expert about this head or the the whole style, just enough inforamtion to be dangerous). I tried my best to center a side and gave it a shot. It did a suprisngly awesome job at cutting my whiskers and reducing them to nothing, except for the pain and rawness it left behind. I knew better, but I just had to give it a go. Forutantely, I have been trying some Mystic Waters Soaps, etc. I cannot belive how quickly the pain went away, the redness which should have lasted days (yeah one spot was that bad) and eveything was almost 100 percent in less then a day. I am still looking in mirror and wonering what happened to the damage I caused. The next day also my stuble was barely visible and super thin. It is very very rare day that ever happens to my facial hair.

Tell me what I do knot know about this open comb please. It looks like I will have to aquire a different head to experience the full beneifit of an open comb. Not to mention I still want to try a slant. I have full blown RAD. ARGGGGGG. I had never thought I would try either, let alone an open comb. Both seem to have beneifts that would beneift my beard type when not using a straight. the straights were sitting at a local antique store, that I had previously scored at. For the price figured it was time to go get them before someone beat me to them. I knew the house boss would not be mad about the purchase. It has been so long since I have went out and had lunch. Even when I take the kids to lunch I do not eat out. I figured I had some play money comming today. It was about cost of a meal deal super sized. I guess if I end up with a straight sticking out of my back I new she felt differently. hahahaha
    Thanks ALL

Frankenrazor? It looks like a tech handle and old type head to me, maybe a better pic would help.

No need, that's definitely what it is. Someone probably swapped the handle to replace a badly cracked original ball-end handle on the Old Type.

I should have mentioned the finish on handle is much newer and nicer then head. The picture does not show it but obviously a different type of finish all toghter on handle. It's no doubt they aren't matching. I was more curious about the head. I didn't realize there were as many combs as there were. The fact that the combs were nice n straight, no cracks any where I figured it was worth grabbing. It actually looks pretty good in person considering age. Normally I'm not a fan of the gold because of the way it wears or at least the ones I have seen in person. It's got character and looks better then its age especially considering other models I have seen that were definately newer. Maybe I could list it as an ultra rare handle. Isn't that what would happen on eBay? My apologizes for not mentioning the handle to begin with. Little guy was ready for the dady and video game time I promised, so I was in a hurry. Usally the pictures from the iPhone are better and show more. But that's what I like about this site someone will catch IT whatever IT may be.
