Default Happy results from my whipped dog purchase

Well i have been shaving all week with my Whipped Dog special! He sent me a Spike brand straight razor from Union Cutlery ,,, and a bonus practice strop. First shave was a little scary ...but by the end of the week ...once i figured out a comfortable grip...all is well... I am good!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Scare is right but nothing that cannot be mastered in a short time. Tip: it is all about technique.

Larry's kit was very helpful for me. Now, I'm planning to use the straight to learn some honing.

The benefit to Larry's kit is that if you somehow cut your strop in half and knock a 1/2 inch notch in the edge you wont be heart broken...:)

Larry is a great guy. It's nice to see that he added in another strop. I have a Union Cutlery razor and I can tell you you got a good shaver there.

Congrats! I also started down the straight razor path with gear from whipped dog over a year ago and I'm very happy I did. I still sometimes use that strop and I'm always pleasantly surprised by how effective it is.

i nicked a nice SRD strop in an area that isn't a stropping issue and it still made me sad...

Same with me. I had a really nice latigo that I chopped up on the bottom and top (seems like rolling the razor is where my mistakes used to lie). Still usable but I almost weep whenever I take a look at it.

Though I recently picked up a horsehide a few months ago made by B&Ber that I've only put in a tiny nick, fear of desecration by user error has prevented me from picking up a TM strop.

Glad things worked out for you. Yes indeed, there is something very scary about taking such a sharp blade with no safety at all, to your face the first time.

Tony offers a practice strop now for like 16.00 or sumthing when you buy his paragon steerhide...I think he even has a free upgrade to linen now too...

Larry offers a great service for people wanting to dip their toe into straight shaving without it costing them a fortune.

If you want to go with a bigger strop but still stay in the lower price ranges for fear of messing up an expensive strop, check out www.starshaving.com and particularly their "Big Daddy" 3" strop. I have one and currently it is my primary hanging strop.

Larry's sight unseen deal simply can't be beat for getting a newbie started cheaply.

Great deals on razor options. Deals largely due to razors not very pretty. No reason not to dress one up if you like it though
