    Default Tissot Visodate, anyone?

I have to say, I'm smitten for this budget minded beauty.

My local ad has this one in stock at 15% off, for the holidays. Got my finger on the trigger.

It's basically an eta 2836-2 movement in a swatch case, actually made by Swatch/Tissot. Anyone have any experience with this marque? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It's certainly one of their nicer ones. There's nothing wrong with Tissot and the mvt isn't bad at all, though it's probably a std grade. They are very popular watches, though I feel it's better to spend a little bit more money and get better value. Ask them if it's been regulated at all or if they know someone who can, if it's running fast/slow. Alternatively, you've got the similar Hamilton Jazzmaster and Valiant Auto, which are a bit better, but unfortunately are a bit more expensive.

A very attractive watch, suitable for those who have a wrist the right size for the large case and deep lugs.

I own one. I bought it at the start of the year and opted for the gold and black model.

I'm happy with it although mine did have to go back to Tissot as I had some issues. There was either a lack of lubrication or something broke causing the crown, when wound, to directly drive the rotor. Also it was losing about 25 seconds a day. The Jeweller where I purchased sent it back for me and it was covered under warranty so I was not out of pocket. Since I have had it back the watch has been very good. It loses no more than 3 seconds a day and the winding issue has been sorted.
As I said above, I am really happy with my watch. It really is a beautiful timepiece.

I have one, and I am satisfied with it. I got the gold/white face version. I also considered some other brands like Hamilton, but I went with the Tissot. I also have a Tissot pocketwatch that was made in 1865.

Wow, they are stunning to look at...Still undecided; get the Tissot, or save for my grail, a Damasko black da36. Thanks again for the replies.

The Tissot is nice but I'm with you in preferring the Damasko. Much nicer, IMO.

I have a gold Visodate, too. Somebody posted that it probably contains a standard grade movement. This watch has an ETA 2824, I believe, which even in standard grades is capable of chronometer like accuracy. For example, mine was 10-12 seconds fast per day the first several weeks I have had it. Now the movement has "settled" and I found it the other day to be only 5-6 second fast per day. This is well within tolerances.

I'd hold out for the Damasko.

I had a Tissot T-Touch and after three years it died. Tissot wanted $400 to replace the module in it I was pretty peeved as know that the watch had been very well taken care of. I will never buy another Tissot. The product was below par as was their attitude to repairing it.

    Hi Jimmy,

Very familiar with Sinn & Muehle Glashutte. I believe I have a Muehle Glashutte catalogue floating around here somewhere. I do like the German watches quite a lot.

Personally I would save for that damasko posted earlier especially as you say it is the watch you really want? IMHO you will rarely be satisfied until you have at least tried the grail piece settling often proves more expensive in the long run as you end up with both the compromise and the grail. That's just me though...

I must say though if you are looking for other suggestions you could do far worse than that exquisite Stowa posted earlier definately on my list to accquire! If you'll up your budget and are willing to buy pre owned IWC also do phenomenal pilots watches very understated (save the big pilot) but have a very handsome look IMHO http://www.hackettwatches.com/hw/items/LMMN8KHRXC

    Hi Grant,

I'm very happy with my Stowa Flieger, twas definitely worth the wait. I love everything about the IWC offerings, except the price, LOL.

As you should be wow it's a fantastic watch everything about it suggests a watch from a much higher price point. Even the packaging shows real care and attention to detail, and the display back is well just exquisite a watch well worth keeping I think.

That said I personally as I've said would go for the Damasko (at around 1000 Euro's? is a awful lot of watch for the money) but the visodate is a classic looking watch and being that I have all the will power of a terrier confronted by a rabbit where watches are concerned would right now be telling myself to get both...

I think I'll cap this longish post off by saying if you find yourself in the position to get the IWC do it you won't regret it!

    Regards Grant

Most German Watches use ETA (SWATCH) Ebauche's anyway. Only the case etc is made inhouse or sourced from a supplier along with the sapphire crystals. Yes Sinn and Damasko use ETA Ebauche's as does Stowa, Steinhart and most (not all) German Boutique brands. Thats not a criticism in any way.
