Default Having soaps and creams in containers without a lid?

Today I purchased some containers to put my soaps in, none of the containers have a lid. So, I wonder if it's ok to use soaps in containers without lids? Does it affect the soap in any negative way? Is there any difference between hard soaps, soft italian soaps and shaving creams?

The only possible downfall to no lids is that the scent may fade slightly faster than it would otherwise.
And if you're OCD about things not having a lid on a container may just look wrong.

I've got vintage William's in my Old Spice mug and all I do is cover it with plastic wrap to keep the dust out of it when it's in storage in the cabinet.

The Soft Soaps are probably ok, the creams not so much. Creams will certainly begin to show signs of dehydrating pretty quickly by kind of getting a little dry and crustyish around the edges. Just my experience.

best way to store them is upside down on a saucer. that way they dry out from the days use and don't turn to mush.

Ok, It is just small amounts of cream I intend to store in an open container for a week or so, I will try it and see how it goes. Now I have mashed my hard and soft soaps (I only used a small amount of my soft soaps) in my containers, hopefully they will be ok .

Only the smartest ideas can be this simple, genius.
Razors don't shave people. People shave people!

There are three critical types of moments in life: Times when we should use opportunity to be enamoured with finer details, and times we should ignore the minutia.

I keep a puck of VDH in a mug without a lid and it hasn't hurt the soap in any way that I can see. I only use it from time to time and it works fine.
