  1. Default Never thought I would find relief

For about a month now I've been lurking around here, deciding whether or not to make the switch to wet shaving. I have extremely sensitive skin and no matter what I did I got absolutely atrocious razor burn. I had tried everything I could think. One day I decided to sit down and see what the internet had to offer as a solution. At the time I was using Edge shave gel with a Schick Hydro 5. The edge gel always dried my face out before the razor even touched my skin. After finding this wonderful site, I acquired an Omega boar brush and a puck of Van der Hagen Deluxe shave soap from Walmart. As of this writing, I have wet shaved twice. There is no way I am ever going back. The red burning skin on my neck is gone after two shaves. It's simply amazing that the old has accomplished in two days what the modern could not do in two years. I certainly understand why there is a group like this who have carried on the tradition of wet shaving. It's the only way to go!

Thanks for the positive story. I feel like I have seen way too many "bad result" stories recently. And Welcome!

Welcome to B&B! It sounds like matters have already improved for you, but I can't help but suggest as well that you try a DE razor. I learned to shave with cartridges, which meant that I didn't realize that I didn't have to have razor burn until I tried out a DE. For me, it makes a good shave way better. Look around the forums here, if you want to take suggestions on good razors for sensitive skin.

Cool!! Glad it helped (funny how the answer can be there all along but we're blinded by Madison Ave's hype).

For me, it was always a Sophie's choice between "bad shave" or "chewed up face." I made the switch in the same progression as you--switched to brush and soap first, then tried DE after reading the positive comments about it.

    Welcome!

I went through the same thing and got relief when I want back to traditional wet shaving. I also quit using multiblade razors and went back to the old-fashioned double edge razors.

The edge gel gunked up my razor and made me press too hard when shaving with a multiblade razor. The canned foam did not protect my face at all and the brush and puck soap provided immediate relief.
