    Default Ever Ready clean up.

I picked up these three brushes yesterday along with the pens. I just re-used a photo from the Score so ignore the pens. I had to have these since I don't come across much in the way of marbled handles and I only had a couple in my collection. The small green one is an Erskine, the middle ( mauled ) is the Ever ready and I grabbed the Strong Set because it's a relative of the one I restored some time ago ( the pearl and blue ) The pearl color I used matches this original one pretty closely.
But here is what I did for the photo to get the Greenish marbled Ever Ready presentable. I was almost able to save the imprint...but it still looked pretty gross for my tastes. So now I have a shiny #150 .
Now to get around to re-knotting some of these as well as the others I just turned.

I try to save the branding when possible, but sometimes it's impossible. There are times when the branding clutters the handle or takes away from aesthetics. IMO, that's the case with your ER. Much better without it. Stunning handle!

Yes Gigster,, in this case it was impossible , and believe me, I tried. I got everything else cleaned up just fine , didn't touch the lettering. But as you can see in the photo the scratches ran right through the script. Man, I was bummed, especially after all that work. But I had to try. I was able to get all the surfaces around the letters pretty much perfect, but the letters still showed the scars and it looked terrible. So,, as you can see I did the next best thing and polished it all out. It's still an Ever Ready,, it just doesn't say so except for the model numbers on the bottom. Regardless it's now a brush I won't have any problem re-knotting to my tastes.

I imagine he hand-sanded then buffed and polished out on the wheel. Regardless, very nicely done.

Yes, Urkel, Bimmerman is correct. It's surprising how much has to be taken away as even when you think the sanding is complete and you polish it, the lettering still GHOSTS through it and can be seen. Since I have no patience I chucked the handle in my lathe to speed the process. But hand sanding will do the same thing. Also on this piece, which I didn't show, someone also tried removing the casting seams as well. And did the same bang up job of it. So I did what I had to do.
I was able to do quite a bit of polishing on the lathe,, but did finish it up on my buffer.

Great looking handles, especially the black/marble Ever Ready.

It's just silly how cool that marbled handle looks. I keep scrolling back up to peak at it. Looks like polished stone.

Yeah FL, you see what I saw. I had to have it. Now I've got in in my head to see if I can't re-create it , and maybe in other color combinations. A matching set of scales would be cool too. I've done some similar pieces, now I have to try this. It's just a bit unusual. Not the same old plain vanilla.
