Question for the honemeisters

ok for all the professional honemeister .

I was wondering this morning what razor you all use as your goto razor weather it is a straight DE or even a mach3 (not that would be admitted)

so what is your goto razor guys?

I have 14 straights that I know can provide me with a perfect shave. They are all "go to" razors as far as I am concerned; that's why they are still in the tribe.

Not an expert but it real depends on the day I am not sure I could name a top 5

Not an expert either, but I would tend to put TI razors at the top of my list.

I'm only a self proclaimed honemeister, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
My go-to razor at this very moment is a cutoff Kiebitz 4/8 square point. But once I hit submit on his reply this might change

I choose whatever tickles my fancy once I get my lather applied, plain and simple. This might be a DE or str8, depending on my mood and how much time I have.

It used to be my 5/8 DD Satinedge (see avatar) but lately it's been my 6/8 Thiers Issard SRP razor.

I have about 10 go to straight razors, depending on the time available and the mood. Very rare occasion on the DE, Feather or another type razor.

I can tell you that at least a couple are Maestro's, Puma, Boker, TI, couple of Germans, an American or maybe a couple........lol. Don't know if this helps.

10 out of 5 or 600 shavers is OK........It's all the rest in the drawers and cabinets that I can't get to that bother me.......

The problem with asking Lynn to list his favorate razors is that if he does the prices for these particular razors will skyrocket through the roof. If you don't believe me then just look at the prices for Dubl Duck Wonderedges. Honemeisters generally like to keep their favorate razors somewhat on the "down low" so that they and their close friends can purchase the razors at reasonable prices. You really can't go wrong with the well known brands; however, the more well known they are the more that they generally cost.

My favourite still is my 5/8 Friedr. Abr. Herder. It gives the most predictable nice shave, hardly ever sees a hone. I managed to buy a lot of 3 from ebay.de so I won't need to buy more the rest of my life so I can safely divulge this info on B&B. Let the prices go through the roof and I'll sell one at the most LOL.

What still puzzles me is that these never feature on anyone else's list of favourites and that they hardly ever appear on ebay.com.

I will say that my most inexpensive "go to" razors are my Wapienicas. After trying my first one I promptly ordered 7 more. All that I have used have been incredibly consistent and awsome shavers, but I have only tried the older ones. I heard that it is getting harder and more expensive to get the good ones.

Part of the challenge of your question is the definition of the word "Honemeister". Is that someone that is merely proficient at honing or is it someone that earns money from straight razors? If the latter, is it someone who only hones for a select few people or someone that sells his services commercially on several different websites? Is the commercial aspect even involved?

I started a thread at another site asking this question. Several posts later there was no consensus.

All that being said, and disregarding the question if I am a honemeister (I don't consider myself one), I have an 8/8 J. Champon Sheffield wedge that is my go to razor. I also have a great DD satinedge with a huge smile that I got from a guy for $5 and cleaned/honed that is a great shaver and will always be in my top two.

A "HoneMeister" is something I would not call myself, however I am pretty darn proficient with getting my own razors scary sharp... Maybe because I'm used to working with metal from gun-smithing, or maybe, because, as my wife puts it, I'm obsessive with getting things perfect

My goto razor is the one that I use to line out my beard, after trimming it down every two weeks, the one that defines the "straight" line that will be there for the next two weeks, the one that has to cut perfectly the first time...The whole reason I use straight razors at all.....
The rest of the days all I shave are my cheeks, and the neck line, so just about all of them work just fine..
But that Monday morning that sets the lines, I only use one of two razors because they never let me down...
They are, a new 5/8 DOVO #105 Micarta Ice Edge and a Vintage 4/8 Diamond Spear from Hamburg..
The DOVO was over $120 and the Spear was $8.50 from e-bay both are wicked sharp, and make it very easy to define my beard lines... I guess price has no bearing on personal preference

I'd like to see Lynn promote Zeepk next April 1st.
