Post your pictures - ERN Razors

I really think Ern may be my favorite vintage razor. It's interesting, as I didn't realize Crown/Sword was Ern as well. I have both-pics to post later- and they both give me excellent shaves. They have similar, if not the same grind. I enjoy the thicker spines that each has. I do like a nice extra hollow- such as F.W.E. The has a thinner spine, but as my straight shaving and preferences evolve, I'm finding myself grab for the thicker spine straights(Ern, Filly, Kamisori, my custom Bruno Fixed blade Western Kami, etc) much more frequently then the thinner ones. Furthermore, as I continue to hone my honing skills(HA- see what I did there!!) I really do enjoy honing these razors. I find I just enjoy the weight, thicker spine, and just overall feel more than the thinner, "singing" type blades. Eventually, will pick up a Craftsman-Ern I really like the look and I love Craftsman anyhow!!

Will post pics later.

Cheers,

Dan

Hi,
I found this razor, and I would love to know more about it.
Is it Earns Mussel razor?
I doubt it's ivory, but anyways, is it?
Does anybody has a clue when it was made?

It says "Registered trademark" on one side of the blade and "Mussel" on the other. It also has some "Silver Steel Guaranteed 5 years" on the blade.

It was in the Heinr. Boker & Co box, but I'm not sure it was made by them. Box was made between 1924-1935 judging by logo on the box.

I really hope my post fits the thread!

Well Mussel was certainly an ERN trademark, although it's surprising that it doesn't say Wald-Solingen anywhere.

Looks like a classic early 20th Century German Razor there, and that's a good thing!

How hollow is it?

And those scales look like plastic from the photo, but you never know.
I've not seen many Solingen razors with Ivory scales.

The real Ivory tends to be flat with a very noticeable natural grain in it, not like the regular banding of synthetic ivorine...
Do you have close ups of the scales?

There are some very beautiful blades on here. I bought three blades at the market in Abergavenny, Wales for £8. The best of the three was the crown and sword ERN blade. It's the least worn, surely testament to its quality?

That's what I thought but couldn't say for sure. That's my favorite linen. I have a piece attached to my Kanayama 60k.

I recently scored a Ator with butterscotch scales, which is the only example I have seen so far.

Hi,
Thank you for your response!
It looks like half hollow, but I attached a picture for you to look at.
I could not make good close ups with my phone, but I hope these will help.
It kinda is smooth, but it's hard to tell. What else materials did they use for scales? I'm reading that I should use hot pin to test it, but I don't want to damage the scales.$15416948_1055236161265311_538194562_n.jpg$15497628_1055236171265310_343345063_n.jpg$15497877_1055236054598655_218931540_n.jpg$15571298_1055246797930914_1212726940_n.jpg

Yes that does look half-hollow but I wonder if the blade width has been reduced.
If you search "ERN Mussel razor" a few with that trademark do come up.
The scales are almost certainly Bakelite/plastic.

How does it shave?
