Thread: My uncles DE

    Default My uncles DE

I found my uncles old Gillette today. I will get some pictures posted if I can (I think I'll be better at wet shaving than posting pics). I would like to use it, but thought I'd ask for any restoration tips, cleaning, oiling or whatever. It is in pretty good condition. Hasn't been used for probably 20 years at least. It is gold colored with a knurled handle (duh), the case is faux brown turtle with a satiny paisly liner. Has the Gillette logo in the inside of the lid with "MILORD" below. That is the only clue I have to the model designation. The gold is worn along the leading edges, the moving parts seem pretty smooth. Any suggestions on getting it in use, or if I should shelve it as a keepsake, would be appreciated, as well as to what I might have.

Yep thats pretty much the one. Any sort of cleaning or maintenance needed before use? Again I'll try to get some pics up soon.

And a soak in Mineral oil and you should be set. do not boil it as you will lose the gold if you do.

Here are some pictures of "Milord", I have found the cleaning and restoration threads, kinda jumped the gun there, but thanks for the input nonetheless.

Oh wow, that is a Pre-War Milord. Very nice. Note the polished ring around the bottom, right before the TTO knob. This is different than the Post-War Milord pictured by the other member (I own a Post-War and it is a rough shaver, but the Pre-War's are supposely much better...and much more rare).

You should consider yourself lucky, you got a great razor in good shape with a "family history" to it. Enjoy the shave!

Very nice! Especially for a pre-war.
