Freshly Fresh-faced Old Man reporting in

Evening gents (and ladies),

So I just bought a carbon steel razor with camel bone scales, plus a starter kit with soap, cup, strop, and brush. To my dismay, however, this alleged razor-sharp tool was only about as sharp as a lightly used kitchen knife. This will not do, I thought to myself, and proceeded to hone the <redacted> of a <redacted> with progressively finer grits. After yesterday's polishing with 2000 grit, it's almost there. Shaving works, though there's room for improvement, and I have yet to cut myself like I did with my old Gilette[sup]®[/sup] Mach 3[sup]®[/sup] Fusion[sup]®[/sup] Power[sup]®[/sup] Pro-Glide[sup]®[/sup] Force[sup]®[/sup] Matrix[sup]®[/sup] ... thing.

So that's my story to date, and I'm sticking to it.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I ordered a block of manzanita burl to replace the camel bone, because manzanita burl is about the most beautiful wood I've seen. I will of course post pictures when it's done.
