Krumholz's book says Q was mistakenly used "an estimated one or two months" in 1971. Presumably, both Q1 and R1 are still first quarter 1971. More like January and February = Q, February and March = R.
Also, a J1 can be either 1963 or 64 for a similar reason.

I've never seen an R-1, but that doesn't mean that there aren't some.
My best guess would be Q-1, R-2, R-3, R-4; all 1971 production.
