Acceptable tug??

if you hold the razor flat against your face it should "glide" softly and easily..no pain should be experienced..if there is tugging and pulling..razor might be dull

Not uncommon to feel a little bit of tugging on the first pass.

If it's enough make your eyes well up with tears, then you need to work on your technique or rehone your razor.

Who honed your razor?

Also skin stretching reduces pulling and tugging quite a bit.

+!. I THOUGHT I was stretching doing DE shaving, but in reality I was nowhere close. Now when I feel tugging I immediatly stop, check the angle and stretch the skin some more. 90% of the time this has taken care of it.

Straight Razor Design honed my razor. I don't think I am stretching enough and I need to be more aware of it.

You are new to this and is experiencing the typical new straight shaver stuff.
Your technique isn't there yet.
Hang in there, it will improve a few more shaves in. :001_smile

I like as little pull as possible. With the right technique and the right edges I only have a slight tugging sensation on the most difficult atg stroke.
