Tossing out Abe...

Just recently I have decided to no longer keep pennies. When I get them in change I either put them in the tip jar, put them in the penny holder by the cash register of the store I am in or simply toss them on the ground for some kiddo to find. They just aren’t worth the bother to me. Having said that, I can assure you I am not some wealthy guy who is loaded.

If I were king I’d drop the penny altogether and round all purchases to the nearest nickel.

I have a large novelty drink mug on my counter. All the Abes go in there, when its full I fill a quart size ziploc and Coinstar it. I usually end up with $17-20 every other month. Thats my slush fund!

You could just send em to me. Every little bit helps. Give me a half penny any day.
I roll my change every year and always get a few hundred bucks. The majority of the coins are pennies, now they arent that much, but they add up.

I appreciate that you put them in the tip or penny jar. I have known people who throw them in the trash, I just dont think thats right. I respect your choice, and I agree with you that purchases should just be rounded to the nearest nickle. I just couldnt do it. Then again I am a little weird with money so it could just be me.

Pennies were really annoying when I was in the US. Really, what is the point?

One thing I did like doing was squashing them in those machines they have in tourist places. When we came home we had quite the collection of squished pennies.

The smallest coin we have here is 5c. When I come to power they will be gone too.
