I want to buy that and I don't know how much i should bid up to? I'm in college and I don't want to spend more than I have to.
Anyone know what year that is as well? Since I've heard that the 40's SS is better than the 50's.
Thank You

Post your question here... there are many experts reading.
1st Q, 1956. I would bid no more than $20.
nice flairtip..watch the prices going up though
Only you can decide which model is best for you. I suggest a WTB posting to see if one of our courteous members can help you out.
I see. I was gifted a Merkur Futur and I've been using that for quite a while now but you can not go fast with it and have to be super careful not to get any nicks. I wanted to give the 37c Slant or the SS a try. Recently i saw a post about how the SS is very nice and how it is the "To Go To" razor. I wanted to invest in one.
Do you think the SS is as good as the Futur for the BBS shave or the SS is just way too mild, because I love BBS and would have for it to be anything but that.
Or do you think i should just save for a Merkur 37c or 39c?
I would go to the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, and just see who has a SS that your interested in, and go from there. I paid $20 for mine from a B&B user...well, I paid $20, but I got the razor (a 52), a tube of Dettol, and an assortment of blades...I believe it was Mantic that said "Any more that $20 for a SS is too much"...

My advice is don't overthink it. If you see a deal on one that isn't broken, 40s or 50s style, pull the trigger. Its the only way to get an answer. Superspeeds are classic and there are lots of them around. If you don't like the one you buy, you can probably trade it with someone here for the other type.

Ah, Thank you. 5t8t2u, someone came to me on the fourms and offered a 1956 SS for 20 dollars and I pounced on it. Im trying to see if I can fit a 37c slant into my 50 dollar budge and buy it for 30 dollars. Thanks for the tip!
This site Connaught shaving has it for $29 bucks, they are great site to do business with http://connaughtshaving.com/merkur37c.html

Check out the Review section here on the forum. I’ve owned a bunch of them, you aren’t going to make a big mistake.
Most antique malls have them for next to nothing, $2.00 to $5.00. It just takes some of your time and a Google search for the nearest antiques malls, though being in school... you may not have much time but since your funds are limited I vote antique malls. I've found hundreds of incredible deals at those stores and they always seem to have superspeeds.
I just payed 23$ shipped to canada for a 1956 superspeed. sometimes they go up to 30-40$ on ebay but that seems too much. this one seemed to be in good condition too. http://www.ebay.com/itm/260887571899...84.m1439.l2649
+1 I am also a college student, so I feel your budget concerns. Connaught is great tho I bought my 39C there among a few other things. I got my order in 7 days which I found very impressive for an international order.
As far as the razor goes think about the 39c too, its larger and heavier. I love the heft of it and if your careful it provides an effortless great shave!!
